Healthcare is a commodity, someone has to provide it. As seen with the NHS they deny care in situations like this as well.

terriej123, all the money in the world does not mean a certain service will exist. We have dumped millions in HIV and AIDS research and we still don't have a cure. It isn't about money, it is about lack of resources.
2
With experimental procedures people get treated for life as well, so there is a potentially great advantage from it.
2
kwiztas, yes, fire fighting is a commodity. In some areas it is private and around 70% of fire fighters are volunteer.
2
"That was a court issue not health issue." Government run healthcare at work.
2
" What ISN'T a commodity in your opinion? Is law enforcement a commodity? What about basic infrastructure? At what point do you draw the line between a commodity and a necessity?" A commodity is something someone has to provide. Someone has to provide a police force and infrastructure. Those programs are ran locally and you do not have a right to them. If you want them to be ran by the government than fine, we can discuss that, but you have to realize that they are commodities before we proceed.
2
Accelerationist, I am saying services are commodities. Those services are provided by people. Do you feel people should be forced to work for free?
2
Blunt Politics, 45,000 people is around 0.02% of the population. That is low. Also, most of those people are poor and poor people have bad health to begin with such as higher rates of obesity and type II diabetes.
2
My existence in a monentary lapse of reason, those parents paid taxes into the NHS, why didn't their kid get care?
2
Out of the 13 nations with 100+ million people it is by far number 1 in GDP per capita. With such a large size it continues to be successful.
2
The US laughs at other nations as well. It is purely a difference of culture. There are many things the US does well objectively and same with other countries. To say one is better than the other (for developed countries) is simply being stupid.
1
Firstname Lastname, this child is receiving care. What happened with Charlie Gard was the government said no. Here the insurance company is simply saying they won't cover it, but the child is still receiving care without government stopping it.
1
This is the norm for Kyle and why he is losing viewers. I am all for discussing the problems of healthcare, but creating fake stories like this do not help.
1
Kyle did lie. This is a norm for him. This is why he is losing viewers.
1
In a universal healthcare system the same thing would happen. Difference is the government will say they don't have money. It happened with Charlie Gard.
1
eagledud4, I have read up on the story. Why was Charlie Gard denied? There was a small chance to live and even experimental services can progress for advancement.
1
celvester' allison, I know what happened, a group that has a large control of healthcare said that a baby could not get care as the chances of living were too low and care was too expensive. Performing even experimental care give them a chance and can progress the healthcare system so future patients can live. But if you want to play the whole "nothing can be done" game, this child will suffer throughout their life. They will not be healthy, so why not let them die? With your standards what Kyle presented here is not an issue at all anymore but the norm. You tell me to do research but I have, I am telling you to check your standards.
1
Bruce Wayne, the NHS did deny care.
1
JTR, Obamacare is the opposite of the free market. We haven't had a free market system in decades.
1
killerbee256, the point was that Kyle said that never happens in other nations which isn't true. Citizen or not that woman is denied care. Also, she is from England, so why don't they cover it? Oh, wait, as said in the article only Spain and the US can offer it. Why doesn't the great NHS system have that kind if surgery?
1
hafeeludeen asraf, this baby is still receiving care. Also, we do not have a free market system in health care. Wasn't Jimmy Kimmel praising Obamacare after his kid received care?
1
Except this baby is getting care.
1
Here in the US this baby still received care.
1
Rationing happens no matter what https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3415127/
1
We haven't had a free market system in healthcare in decades.
1
Also, wasn't Obamacare supposed to stop situations like these?
1
Praxis, if you want to play that game then this child is disposable as they have not provided any value to society besides bringing joy this their parent's life. So by your standard you support this child being killed.
1
JDAyane, in government ran programs they deny care as well. We saw it with Charlie Gard. In Gard's case the government said that child could not receive care at all as it will waste resources. In this case the insurance company simply does not partake in ultra risky and experiment procedures. That is not necessarily bad. When you participate in experiment procedures typically you get your entire healthcare paid for life. If this child makes it they may be in a great situation in that.
1
"They denied Charlie Gard's treatment on the basis of the Doctor's assessment of the child's outcome as being negative... this is a totally different situation, " It is not a different situation. In both cases you have a child who has a low chance of living and need experimental procedures done. Almost any doctor in the US will be foaming at the mouth for this opportunity as they can perform experiments on a human specimen in order to find a cure or better procedure in cases like these. With Charlie Gard the UK government literally denied any care as it will take up resources. In the US this does not happen. This is why we lead the world in research and innovation in healthcare and why our healthcare is so expensive. We are wiling to do advanced testing and research.
1
Grahamhg, it is the same in the US. If you go through testing in healthcare you get your entire healthcare paid for the rest of your life. That is where most funding for healthcare research goes to.
1
Yep, like what happened with Charlie Gard, oh, wait, that was with the NHS. Fact is this story shows the success and care of the US system and why Medicare for all is not necessary.
1
Slipp, I agree with that quote, but Kyle did the same thing.
1
The NHS did the same thing. The fact is that we lack resources in healthcare. There is no ideal situation. In a universal healthcare system this child would die off as well as the government lacks money like with Charlie Gard. But what we see here is that in the US the hospital is still willing to provide. I say this shows how good the US healthcare system can be.
