Thomas Jefferson supported people owning warships. People need to focus on why the 2nd amendment exists to begin with. Actually as the number of guns increases the number of murders has decreased. Attacking guns is a smoke screen by the left that don't want to address the more complicated issue of crime. They will go as far as giving deceptive stats or changing the definition of what a mass shooting is or changing the definition of what an assault weapon is.

Stefan Molyneux has an informative video on gun control entitled "The Truth About Gun Control" He has two, look at the most recent one. He even addresses Australia. Look it up for a counter point.

1. High capacity magazine limits don't work. 100 round drums are not used by the military for a reason. Look at the VA Tech shooting, a 10 round magazine and a 15 round magazine but over 30 deaths. Tactical reload is a skill that is not hard to learn 2. What is an "assault weapon"? 3. Background checks already exist 4. Testing for bipolar disorder is deputizing doctors. Any red flag will ban people from getting guns since no doctor wants to clear someone who could "potentially" cause a shootng 5. Permits can be a way to prevent poor from getting guns........this can be seen as similar to demanding ID to vote Also we don't live in a democracy in this country at the federal level. We never have.

+tyra n What rangerjesse said is true. Look at magazine limits, it doesn't work. In reality no fool will ever use a 100 round drum as they have a tendency to jam up. But even after the ban (as in CA for example) these shooting still happen. It will come down to that the only guns we can own are single shot guns and six shooter revolvers.

Kyle really needs to learn some facts on the gun issues, it is clear he doesn't know much.

+AndrewQuiroz24 Regulating gun purchases would have done nothing. . Anyway, why do you want to regulate gun purchases?

+cindy a Because it is a right that is designed to allow you to protect yourself. Whether that be from the government or the potential rapist if you are in a bad neighborhood/parking garage or if someone breaks into your home or whatever it may be. It is a right designed to protect you. Driving is a privilege set up by state law via the 10th amendment.

+cindy a It is for some. The same people that argue what you are arguing will say that ID requirements for voting hurt the poor. Not saying you are one of them but that is an argument some make. Stricter regulations means those with little resources are now worse off. Plus it is slippery slope. When those laws are put in place and these shootings still happen then people will push for more and more law until it is taking them away. Look at magazine limits for example.

+cindy a Background checks exist already, and what do you consider to be "mental illness"? That is very vague. And why types of weapons do you want to ban? Most gun deaths are by hand guns.

+hologram99 I agree that there are other variables involved in crime. The issue is that gun ownership is a right for very good reasons. We don't force people to take certain courses before they can vote or exercise their right to vote. So why do we have to do it with guns? Driving is a privilege. If you want to discuss the difference between a right and a privilege we can, but that is the main difference. But you have to also consider that you do have property rights as well. You can own and drive a car without a license on your own private property. I drove a car at the age of 5 because of that.
