A brick cell phone in the 80s using CPI inflation cost around $4000 in today's money. Now smart phones are essentially free and has more computing power than what put a man on the moon. Now consider services. How much is the Blockbuster employee worth? $0. You can't just take the min. wage and tie it to inflation as it isn't that simple. One, not everything inflates, two, there are many methods to measure inflation, and three, inflation measures has flaws.

As for the $30,000 stat, what is their household income? What is their cost of living? What are their benefits? I need more information before I come to a conclusion.
