@igneouswatchman government has done a lot. One was shutting down. A lot of local governments are doing well. There is a limit in what they can do. Now they are opening up. The states that are going to suffer the most are the states with the more oppressive governors. Them being IL, NY and CA.

@igneouswatchman paying wages does nothing when there is no productivity. Also, the reality is that this virus is not that serious and most don't care. That is why so many states are opening back up. The only states with people who are scared are IL, NY and CA because their governors are power hungry elitist. But even in CA people are revolting. They just voted in a republican in the special election and they are suing Newsom.

@igneouswatchman you can't print food. Someone has to be producing. Also, many work where they feel they have a purpose in life. Staying in lock down has led to depression and that is one reason why. We bailed out the cruiseline and airline industries because this is a unique situation and opening up those industries takes a lot of time and money where if they were to shut down chances are they will not reopen.

It has always been that way because technology has it that we make too much food. In the past government used to buy dairy products and give it away. However, that will cost money in buying it, shipping it and storing it. So they just give farmers money to not produce.

David Vogeley people die all the time. Is death a new thing to you? We are at the point of what is worse, the virus, or the bad economy? And no, experts are not saying that. Some are and others aren't. And no one is saying open completely but do it in phases. GA has been open for 2 and a half weeks and there has been no second spike. Same with states like TX and FL. This week is the most important week with this virus. If there is no spike in those states that is a great sign. And by the end of May most states would have been open for at least 2 weeks, and if no spike occurred we are fine. Also, in order to find a cure more people simply have to be infected. A lot of times in science you stumble on the answer. You do that by having as much data as possible. Remember that vaccines were discovered to begin with when it was noticed that dairy farmers were not getting small pox. The reason why is because they got cow pox.

@sentjojo you are correct for the most part. The only thing I disagree in is that lock down can prevent some deaths, but it is very low. And the deaths prevented are of people who most likely die soon anyway. But as a whole you are correct.

Will Ganness true. This virus did have me feeling down but lately I am excited. The reason why is because more people are standing up to take on the oppressive government. I have been watching Tucker's videos about how leaders are abusing their power. But I realized that essentially it are leaders in IL, NY and CA. In other states people pressured the government to open up or they just did it anyway. More people are realizing that the virus is not that big of a deal. Cuomo now has to use kids to scare people to stay shut down. People in CA are starting to revolt by suing Newsom and electing a republican in the special election. I feel come November there are going to be a lot of changes in a lot of areas and the democrat party is going to be vastly reformed.

This is what will happen if we had people like AOC and Bernie in charge. They will use the GND to kill many jobs in the private sector and then use authoritarian policies to shut people down. Ian G the new case rate is low and that is even with more testing. I am looking for data and so far I have data on NV and FL and I see no rise. GA has some good data as well with no rise. NV has data of new cases a day and tests per day. This evening I am going do a ratio of new cases a day over tests per day. That is really the valuable stat that is not being presented. If that number is dropping that is important. That means that even with more testing cases are low. On first glance it appears that the cases are low and tests are high.

The virus deaths are overstated and hospitals are being told to list anyone dying with the virus as a coronavirus death. 70,000 is around 0.02% of the nation. With a percent that small you are dealing with so many variables and you cannot tell to what issue contributed the most. The reason why is due to lack of data. Consider how small 70,000 is overall. The same is with the 30,000 stat you bring up. That number actually varies. One study says 18,000, another says 60,000. Now think about that, 18,000 is around half of 30,000. 60,000 is double of 30,000. That is essentially an error bar of over 50%. That is huge. Same with flu deaths. If you look at flu deaths it ranges with 20% error. Why? Because the overall numbers are small. So you can't just throw numbers out there and expect them to mean anything.

@igneouswatchman are they avoidable? We do not know. As I said, that number is small overall. Thus we do not know to what degree the virus played a role in the death. Someone who is 80 with heart problems and the virus dies and is listed as a virus death. But chances were very high they were going to die soon anyway. Also, there is no control to compare to as well. We know very little about this virus as a whole but considering how almost all who died are old or had other health complications to begin with suggests that the virus is not the issue and that most to all of those individuals would have died in the next few months anyway. As written in the book "Being Mortal" the author writes that people seek out modern medicine to live another 5 or 10 years but will live only 5 or 10 months. The reason why is because those who die typically have many health complications to begin with. So with this virus the lock down may have saved someone from getting but, but chances are high they are going to die in a few months anyway. As for valuing American lives, 40,000 die a year in traffic accidents. Banning driving will make that number to be zero. Do you support that? Now is the time to reopen. We have flatten the curve and hospitals have open spaces. The survival rate is at 78% and climbing. So if someone gets really sick they can receive care. Opening the economy will do two things 1. Get the economy going 2. Get people infected so we can learn more about the virus I am not saying open all the way, we should be slow, but on that latter part the only way we can learn about the virus is if more people become infected.

@igneouswatchman to expand on people becoming infected and learning about the virus. As I said, 70,000 is a small data set. To know more we need more people to get infected. In doing so we can find out if the virus played a huge role in those 70,000 deaths or not. And I am not saying have people die. With the healthcare system where it is at very few, if any will die. Again, our recovery rate is going up. But with people becoming infected we can learn If we can build up an immunity If it evolves Are there other strains How serious are the symptoms And so on, and that will get us much closer to get a vaccine. But that will only happen if people become infected as now we have real world situations to study.

@igneouswatchman there is nothing to consume when people do not produce. And new businesses will not open up that quickly. To open up an airline you have to inspect the planes, the code, hire skilled workers, etc.
