You don't have a right to marriage. What they are doing here is equality in the eyes of the law. Either everyone can get married or no one, they choose the latter.

MaggieLovesJimmy It isn't a childish move, it is the part where there are limitations on the government. If the people want the government to recognize marriage then it can't discriminate via the 14th amendment. If the people don't want gay marriage than they can't have marriage all together. Like if the people want public education then it has to be made available to everyone. They government is supposed to work for the people, but the government has limitations.

MaggieLovesJimmy Marriage isn't a right. You may still get married, just that now the law won't recognize it. This is constitutional.

What law did they break?

ahj71 They are not marrying anyone so they are not discriminating. That is most likely what the court ordered. Thus, they are not breaking any laws.

SkinWalker882012 They are not violating the 1st amendment. By discriminating in marriage they are violating the 14th amendment. Since they are not going to marry anyone they are not discriminating thus no amendment is being violated.

SkinWalker882012 They are not discriminating, how can you discriminate when you don't allow anyone to get married? You are making no sense. Also, what does religion have to do with this? They are not forcing people to get married or not, they simply are not recognizing it by law.

How is this discriminating against everyone? Now everyone has equality. No one is able to get special privileges according to law. I am straight but I don't get anything different than a gay person because I am not married, but married people get special privileges. I don't necessarily agree with that. Kyle misses the point here, either everyone gets married or no one. In both cases we get the equality they cry about. He went to the at 3:40, they are not allowing interracial marriages because they are not allowing marriages. Slaver? Really? That is banned by the constitution. But never mind that, religion has nothing to do with this, they are stopping all marriages. If you want to compare this to black segregation it would be removing all water fountains instead of having the black only ones and the white only ones. Way to miss the point Kyle.

***** Either everyone gets married or no one, sounds fair to me.
