The political left want more government. They want to increase the people's dependency from government. Thus government has power to be bought. If you oppose government they take things away from. Good luck stopping them.

Way to make something black and white. There is a desire to have government. The thing it that we need to ensure that it remains the servants and not the masters. There is also a desire to have money being spent by government as long as the tax payers get their money's worth. You do that with smaller, more local government. To you it is either government or not government. To me it is too much government is just as bad as no government. What we need to do is follow the constitution and have strict limitations on the federal government and have stronger state and local governments.

They deal with citizens on a more personal level and there is the threat of them moving to the next state or city. Also it is more effective because they can micromanage as opposed to creating a one size fits all policy. It caters to the large diversity we have in the US.

The constitution was based off of the articles of confederation. The modifications are that 1. there are limitations on all government 2. there are rights to all people 3. the fed deals with foreign affairs Some of those rights we have are the ability to go from state to state and the ability to trade between states without import and export taxes. My experience is that those who lean politically right are more involved in their community and vote more often (which is why republicans control so much) where those who lean politically left don't which is why they support a more centralized government and think like you do. You feel that all government can be corrupt so it becomes feast or famine. I personally get involved in our community. I see what goes on and how are tax dollars are spent. I personally met both candidates for mayor. I am not some rich guy either as in I only earn $24,000 a year, but I know what goes on and have a large influence. Local governments are held more accountable and thus are not "more easily swayed and influenced by special interest" as you say. "There is no threat of anyone moving. " Yes there is, especially for highly skilled individuals like me. I moved 2000 miles away no problem. "Micromanaging is not an effective management strategy " It is highly effective. Becoming successful requires attention to details. I face that a lot while I pursue my PhD and criticize others for not doing so.

By micromanaging I mean what the government is involved in it would be able to run such programs in an effective manner.

For example, look up Kelo vs City of New London, or the Patriot Act, or how it flipped flopped on issues like the min. wage during FDR's time.

Why do you have to bring everyone down to your level? It isn't their fault you are in that bad of a situation. The recession of 1929 which took over a decade to recover from and the one of 2007 which we haven't recovered from are the two I am talking about. Both occurred after 1913. Very simple. This country has faced multiple recessions such as the Panic of 1837, the Panic of 1873, the recession in 1921, the one in the late 70s and so on. Every recession, except for 2 we recovered from in around 5 years or less. The later ones a lot earlier due to use being a more developed nation. During those recessions the federal government did little to nothing to "fix" the economy and we recovered quickly. Two recessions that took over 5 years to recover from were the great depression and the one in 2007. Both of those times the federal government tried to "fix" the economy with massive spending. It eventually took the war to end the one of 1929 and the one of 2007 we still haven't recovered from. Recessions happen, how we recover if key. The federal government slowed down recovery.

The fact that we haven't recovered yet is due to the federal government. Explain to me how the two slowest recovery occurred when the federal government was the most involved in "fixing" the economy?

If you want money out of politics you need to follow the constitution and keep strict limitations on the federal government. The problem is that those who are cry about money in politics the most are liberals. They also are the ones that cry for more government and want the federal government to run 1. our healthcare 2. our college education 3. more of our money with higher taxes 4. retirement just to name a few. If you are going to allow the federal government to be the provider for so many things increasing dependency on it, then of course they will abuse that power. If you oppose them they will take away our healthcare, college, retirement and so on.

The states and local government are more competent at governing. The reason why is that at the local level you have the ability to control government. You also see if you are getting your money's worth on government spending. Think about it. How many congress members can you vote for? Now how many state and local representatives can you vote for? At the local level you can ensure that the government remains the servants instead of the masters. And ultimately if all else fails you can move to another state and remain a US citizen.
