The flag, to many, represent southern pride. During the war many fought for state rights. If you look at the history of the US we were still less than 100 years old and the idea of limited federal government and more state rights was strong. Considered that after the War of 1812 a federal individual income tax was proposed to pay for it and was shot down. Why? Because the federal government was never supposed to tax the individual as they were not to have that power over the people. When the south lost they were ridiculed and became destroyed economically. Thus people still wave the flag.

No you are not. Most people find this stupid. At what point do we tear down everything? George Washington owned slaves and used their teeth to get teeth of his own. Do we wipe his face off of Mt. Rushmore?

@beime26 it is about southern pride. Consider many people who immigrate here to the US, become citizens, and still wave the flags from their nations? Same concept.

@roblong9728 Germany lost the war, people still wave German flags.

@joanignasi91 no, state rights in general. The federal government was doing overreach that will completely change those states' economies. They had no authority at the time to have a decision on slavery. Consider in today's standard. Casinos and gambling run the state of NV. If the federal government were to ban gambling that state will fall apart. We have seen that recently in when the casinos were shut down unemployment was the highest of any state. Same concept there. The federal government was doing overreach that will harm their economy. If they can do it for slavery when they did not have the authority via the Constitution, why not in other ways as well?

@Ghost_of_the_Mountain less than half the south owned slaves, and most that did owned a handful at most. Not every slave owner was like Candy Land in Django Unchained.

The Confederate Flag, to many, was about southern pride. The Civil War was, in many ways, was about state rights. During the time the federal government was doing overreach which will greatly harm the southern states' economies. During that time there was still strong belief of limited federal government and more state rights. For example, there was still no federal individual income tax. And pushing for it after the War of 1812 was shot down. After the Civil War the south was devastated and ridiculed by the north. Thus many wave the flag to represent southern pride. Consider people who come from foreign nations that wave their flags out of pride. Same concept.

@keepitsteel1993 glad someone on the left feels that way. How far are we willing to go? George Washington was a slave owner who pulled teeth from his slaves so he can have some for himself. Why not take all his monuments down? Blow up mount Rushmore. The original 13 star flag is flown in Middlebrook Camp, the same flag designed when our founding fathers had slaves and treated blacks as 3/5 of a person. Why not take it down?
1
@natashachenkov1850 it is the same thing.
1
@drugstoredilemmas7962 in general. If the federal government can do overreach to completely change how a state's economy can function what will stop them in general? The US was till young and the people still believed strongly in state rights. Consider that there was still no federal individual income tax at the time. One was proposed to pay for the War of 1812 but was shot down. One was passed after the Civil War to pay for it but was eventually show down in court. The belief of limited federal government was still strong.
1
@antthomas7916 it is about being proud from being from the south. What is someone was waving GA flag? How about NASCAR end all races from all southern states? How far are you willing to go here?
1
@pindakaas42 same with the Confederate Flag. Or what about someone from Japan? They killed millions of Chinese people via brutal experiments and lost the war.
1
@Erik-lq4eo and the south still exist.. What about the flag of Japan? They lost the war and they did brutal experiments on the Chinese.
1
@drake_leo2152 ok, what about the Japan flag? Japan lost the war and did brutal experiments on the Chinese, stupid. You guys are crazy. Heck, let us take everything down, it offends someone in someway.
1
@drake_leo2152 If a flag offends you than you have lived a very great life. You leftists are pathetic and this year has shown it. And you wonder why Trump is president? People are not buying your BS. Now the media is talking about the virus again I see. Why? Because the "protests" went from being about racism and police brutality to being about socialism, CHAZ and riots. So time to distract the people with more BS. You guys need to grow up.
1
Jason Reyes during that time blacks were viewed as property. So it was state rights in general.
1
@joanignasi91 slavery was a part of their economy and thus they were looking to protect it. But the war was about state rights to protect their economies.
1
@josephheston9238 I actually support states having the right to legalize marijuana. Many states economies flourish because of that.
1
Jason Reyes they did.
1
@lordandmaster14 it was about state rights. Slaves were a major party of the economy and the federal government, at the time, has no power to abolish slavery.
1
@thepatbackexperience4573 it was about state rights. They were not viewed as racist as the time as slaves were considered property and not individuals with no rights. Is that good? No. But consider the culture at the time. Imagine this, say another nation were to run into your state and demand to change your state's economy? I bet you will revolt. Does that make you racist?
1
@Gameguy-gk8lx I felt slavery could have ended eventually in other ways. I also oppose slavery. But you have to consider why the nation was set up the way it is. The federal government is there for two things, deal with foreign affairs and deal with commerce between states. Consider marijuana, many states seen their economies improve on that. How will you feel if the federal government banned it? Same concept. You want to keep a standard with it comes to government.
1
@shrek7957 yes, but here is the reality, it comes down to that we have to keep government limited. At the time the federal government had no Constitutional authority to end slavery. They trying to do so is overreach. Slavery was also a part of those state's economy. Bad or good that is what it was and the standard. If you allow the federal government to have that kind of overreach what will stop them on other issues? You guys complain about the war on drugs, well that is a result of a large federal government. In all, not to be a rude, you guys on the left are always inconsistent with your standards. Also, how about people who display US flag from different eras? What about people who will display the original US flag? Remember our nation was abusing slavery at that time, even in the north, and during the war US soldiers killed British soldiers who were waving the white flag.
1
@thepatbackexperience4573 the economic and political aspect of slavery was involved. But it was encompassed to the whole idea of state rights. Those states dependent on slaves to run their economy and the federal government was overreaching trying to end it thus ruining those states' economy with no actual alternative. And it would have happened overnight. Also, I do not see it as making them racist. How much race did people in that time really understand? In those days most likely very little. Also, how far are you willing to go with this? What if you supported the state of GA? Does that mean you support slavery? Or the US even, a state that had slaves fight in the Revolutionary War promising them freedom and then denying it. Why not take down the US flag?
1
@GordieKat not in the method they were trying at the time.
1
@joanignasi91 it is both. The idea of state rights is that states run themselves within the confines of the Constitution. Every state deals with different issues and thus the federal government should not be the one making such decisions. Take today, the state of NV will be destroyed if gambling will be banned via federal law.
1
@RipCityBassWorks state rights to manage their own economies. Learn history.
1
@thepatbackexperience4573 who is to say the Confederacy would not have done that? I will argue the Confederacy was built off of standards and consistency and that being state rights where the US was pushing for federal overreach and going against standards. It goes both ways.
1
@thepatbackexperience4573 "Everything that the south needed to succeed was connected to slavery. " Or more of independence and state rights. Why did the colonies push to succeed from the British? For independence. Even that was debated at the time where many opposed it and did not want to leave from the British. People want to be free in the US at that time. A reason why people came to the US (well it wasn't the US then but you get it) was for freedom. One was religious freedom. In the 1700 the colonists were paying less taxes than the British, and many were fine being under the British rule. Consider that. Saying the Civil War was simply about slavery is grossly oversimplifying the issue.
1
Ok, what about people who wave the original US flag? The US was founded with racist taking advantage of slaves using them in war but denying them freedom they promised. And they killed British soldiers who were waving the white flag.
1
@MrHat. state rights in general. If the federal government can do overreach beyond the limits of the Constitution and dictate how a state can function what will stop them from doing it for all issues? Also, you do know that individual states have their own flags? That does not make them their own nation.
1
The pendulum has swung the other way bud. Look at how a UCLA prof. was suspended for refusing to give blacks special benefits on a test such as more time. Or how in CHAZ they created a garden for "blacks only".
1
Kaepernick was let go by the NFL because he was not NFL quality QB. To be one you have to 1. Be good enough to start. He was not. A completion percentage of around, or below 60% in today's league is low. 2. Young enough to be a project, he wasn't, he was around 30. 3. Savvy enough to be a back up to talk strategy with the starter or work with a young, rebuilding team. He showed he is not that has he exploded into the NFL during his first couple years but then the league adjusted to him and he could not adjust back.
1
No. This is leading to another four years of Trump. The democrats failed with covid and are now threatening to shut down a again now that the riots.....I mean "protests" are not longer popular. So they have to go back to another issue. Good luck convincing people that the virus is an issue. And look at the issue of CHAZ and the riots where democrat leaders are complete failures. How is the governor of Washington now aware of CHAZ? And why is the mayor allowing it to happen? This is pushing more people to the right.
