And Seattle has a high min. wage, not surprising you have limited restaurants. Also, the state of Washington has one of the highest teenage unemployment rate.
"Your Longway's Diner story is bullshit"
Whatever, you don't have to believe it. Just like a min. wage hike won't hurt me any as I get paid way above the min. wage and can make cuts if needed.
"Look, it may actually happen that raising the minimum wage will result in a few persons losing their jobs in the short run. But I would rather have a 5% unemployment rate with every employed person getting paid a living wage (and none of them on food stamps,) than have a 3.5% unemployment rate with loads of employed persons who are impoverished and struggling to survive."
So what do you do with those who lost their jobs? Also, there is something called labor to labor substitution. That is those jobs could be replaced by those re-entering the job market and turnover rate is lower. That means those at a disadvantage, such as teens, can't get a job and thus enter the workforce later. That makes it harder for them to move up. You are keeping people down. That is not how you grow an economy.
". The increase in payroll costs could easily be covered by a slight increase in menu prices and a slight decrease in business profits"
Business profits are thin, so they can't cut profits. Also, several people will refuse to pay the increase. As is I hardly eat out because it is expensive. Several will follow suit.
