A direct democracy means the majority oppresses the minority. Also, the general public is typically not informed enough to make decisions on important issues which is why a direct democracy is not always best, especially at the federal level.

Bob Snieger, so 51% is the will of the people? And what if that 51% are ignorant on the topics? Is that wise to push policy that way?

Beezus, because they are delusional and out of touch with reality. Also, they have no idea how and why the country is set up the way it is.

It means that the majority oppresses the minority. It also means smaller states have essentially no voice.

JJRyzer, nothing at the federal level is ever determined by a direct democracy. That is only at the state and local level. The reason is that the federal government is there to serve the states, not the people. There is way too much diversity to allow for a direct democracy at the federal level. Smaller states would end up being overpowered by larger states. And what works in one state would not work in another.

contraband100, you can have diversity with the same race. Two cultures can be the same race.

Kyle starts out by praising the Constitution but then rips on it by complaining about how many decisions our politicians make. The Constitution is there limit government, especially the federal government where most issues were to be handled by the states. Also, the Constitution prevents larger states from oppressing smaller ones. A handful of states forcing policy on people is not a good system. Kyle, for being a political science major, has no understanding of the Constitution and the reasoning behind this designed.

There are solid explanations why Republicans won but left wing ideas won as well. A federal program is different than a local one. It is that simple.

Exactly. People are not informed enough to vote on these important issue. Also, it would mean larger states will over power smaller ones. CA may support a min. wage of $15/hr but that would mean smaller states would have to suffer.
