+Shangori Ok, name me one law that would have prevented this shooting? BTW, Bryce Williams passed background checks already.

+randomflashbacks Bryce Williams passed background checks. Someone is not dangerous until they do something dangerous. You can't predict these things.

+thon p. According to a 2007 Harvard study it doesn't.

+Usman Sultan Yes he did........shhhhhh, don't mention that though.

Name me one law that would have stopped this shooting. Just one law. In reality you can't create one unless you literally enter this man's home to see if they are doing anything suspicious which violates privacy rights. Hindsight is 20/20 and calling this man "crazy" is foolish. So now everything is like Minority Report and we can predict the future? What background check would have prevented this man from getting a gun? Funny part is that Bryce Williams did pass a background check. As far as crime is concerned in this country? Crime is dropping already in the US. Plus there is a Harvard study entitled "Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide" published in Journal or Pubic Law and Policy and it showed that it won't. Russia has over 140 million people, that is close to the US of 300 million people (close compared to say Norway of 5 million). Russia has strict guns laws but more gun deaths according to that paper. This is once again another example of how liberals love to cure symptoms instead of actually working to cure the disease. The disease is violence, but it is easier to attack guns and take them away where all indicators show that background checks would not have stopped this shooting.

+roger tasher What "reasonable gun control"? Bryce Williams passed a background check.
1
+roger tasher And what will you be looking for with these "psychological screenings"? Also with our sue happy nation no doctor will want to give anyone permission to own a gun if any red flag pops up. Someone being OCD can be denied a gun since that is a sign of autism.

+Shangori Guns are here, they already exist. It isn't a solution to say "no guns".
1
+Kzar Antila What is a well regulated militia? One that is well prepared. That part is not ignored but in fact shows the importance of the 2nd amendment because the militia is made up by the people.
1
+Shangori So what one guy do we have to kill to make guns disappear if it is that easy?
1
+Shangori With Hitler Nazi was an idea, a way in life. You can remove that. You can't remove guns that are physically here already. Guns are an archaic piece of equipment that can easily be made anywhere. The War on Drugs have done nothing in removing drugs, same is with guns.
1
+Shangori I own four guns, not a single one of them is registered, only 2 have serial numbers.
1
+Shangori The idea of the second amendment is to allow the people to protect themselves from an oppressive government if that time were to come. There is a very good reason why people don't want their guns to be registered. In the UK when they restricted hand guns crime went up and only went back down they they up their police force. So basically what you want is for the citizens to have less guns and the government to have more guns. Bombs are illegal and people still make them.
1
+Shangori This country was designed on state rights. If the people were to go against an oppressive government it will be the people against the local government or at best against the states. If the federal government were to become oppressive it would be the states against the federal government, thus those tanks would not do anything. I have supplies to make bombs right now, they are not hard to obtain. Same with making a gun. Making a bomb is illegal but the supplies to make them are used in everyday life.

+midgetyyeti Russia has strict guns laws and more crime when compared to the US.
1
+midgetyyeti Overall countries are different. I hate comparing one country to another, especially the US to other countries, the variables are too great. You have to look at what works and what doesn't in the US alone. In the US where there are more guns there are less crime.
1
+FastDamone Like Switzerland? Lots of guns, little crime. As a whole you can't compare the US to other countries, the variables are too great. There is a lot that goes into overall violence beyond guns. We have to stick inside the US. In the US where you have more guns you have less crime. But comparing us to say Finland or Norway who have populations that are less than most of our states is not a strong comparison.
1
+midgetyyeti I take criticism for this but in the end you simply can't compare the US to other countries. You can try in some ways but in the end you have to realize that the overall society is different all around.

+FastDamone You do know that Bryce Williams passed a background check? How are background checks going to stop these shooting? Please get into details. As far as I can tell they won't. All I see at that point is rhetoric and no specifics. Look at these shootings that happen, how would a background check stop them? They won't. Crime is a sociological issue, not a gun issue. Guns mean nothing here, it is crime. Plus there isn't any data available that points towards gun ownership going down. But you changing your words to less gun owners = less crimes show that your argument is falling apart as it. You can't justify less guns=less crime because nothing shows that, now you have to change the words to less gun owners when there doesn't exist any reliable statistic that shows gun ownership going down.
1
+FastDamone BTW I am not a "gun nut". I am just a person with intelligence. I would love to see how you will answer my question on what you will be looking for on these background checks and how would they stop any of these shootings that have happened. Remember, Bryce Williams already passed a background checks.
1
+FastDamone But what am I saying, you felt that all guns had serial number. I just checked, only one of my guns had a serial number.

Someone wrote this already but it is true and worth repeating. Liberals are always long on rhetoric and short on specifics. We already have laws that prevent "crazies" from getting guns. This man was not ruled crazy and for good reason, until that shooting, as far as I can tell, he has done nothing wrong. So how far are liberals willing to go with these laws? Also coming from the victim's father one day after the shooting means nothing. When emotions are high reasoning is low. That is what I am seeing.
1
+Ryan Dryer Ok, what laws should we have? All I hear is rhetoric and no specifics.
