What brings in more revenue? TV contracts generate a lot of revenue, entertainment is a huge part of our GDP. Also, if it weren't for sports there will be several individuals that will never make it into college. Our K-12 education system sucks and for a lot of low income teenagers athletics is a way to for them to go to college and succeed in life. We can cut budgets in education and those in the middle class and upper class will be fine. Their kids will be successful and do well. Public education is failing in helping those who are poor, a different route is needed in a lot of ways.

Robert Maiorana We spend more than any other country except for maybe one on education. Education spending has been going up but yet we are not doing well in K-12 education. AT a time when inflation is around 1% and people have a hard time getting jobs teachers are getting yearly raises that are for the most part greater than 1% and usually around 5%. With that we are still struggling in education. We have the best university system in the world which is odd in itself. Throwing more money at education clearly isn't helping.

Robert Maiorana Funding education is a minute problem, as I said before we spend more than any other country except for maybe one. You also have to realize the amount of jobs athletics actually create. Working in athletics at the university level there are several jobs that you usually don't notice. For example, those who coordinate parking during the games, vendors, local restaurants and bars. It goes beyond those who play the sport. Several student workers get on campus jobs because of athletics.
