The market can take care of the issue.  You can require the releasing of information to we have informed consumers and workers but with regulations it becomes a cost analysis issue.  Hand washing is cheap, but what about a regulation that will cost the business $100,000/yr? Would you support that? It is similar to the Ford Pinto example mentioned earlier.  People are complaining about a $13 part that would have supposedly saved 200 people's lives.  We can make cares really safe if we required them to double wall all their gas tanks and limit them to 5 gallons.  That adds weight and increases times at gas pumps, something people don't want. Society has a point in these regulations when cost is considered.  People support a regulation until they find out it will cost them more as a consumer.  That is the issue with regulations.
