  1. The student loan program is what made education so expensive to begin with. You subsidize a program that program will raise prices. When you increase demand that program will raise prices.

  2. Beaver Ones, competition is needed in school. That is how life works. You have to compete to succeed and have to face failure in life. Without competition you create snowflakes. Also, there are people who love to compete and high school is usually the only time they get to do that directly. What I mean is while we are always competing, when you do it in a sporting event it is intense and fun and may be the only time you do it. As for jobs, I agree that schools should not be about job training. It should be about training for life. But that is public school. College is an investment and is job training at that point. And not only job training but also developing connections. That is why I oppose "tuition free" college. The US has the best university system in the world. Also, the US has arguably the best education system in the world if you base it on productivity as opposed to test scores.
