A reason why college is so expensive is because of the federal government with federal grants and loan.  If you make it "free" then college will be more expensive as in more debt for the country or lesser quality (as in other countries).  Spending money on more art majors or political science majors isn't going to help the middle class.  All 50 states already offer K-12 education to everyone.  We have cheap forms of JuCo's and community colleges. Making college "free" at the federal level will destroy the economy and college education as we know it.  Most of what is taught in college can be done on one's own time.  Seriously, you don't need a college degree to study music or politics or economics or sociology.  Bernie, as usual, had a very ignorant plan with no real solution.  So we tax the rich more?  And when that doesn't pay for the increasing cost, then what?  This is why he will never win.
