@EE-gv9wt wealth is not income. You have to be careful there. To start, many who are wealthy, like Bezos, have their wealth tied into the shares of their company. That is non-liquidated wealth, meaning they have limited access to it and can't just turn it into case. In fact, we covered this recently in one of my MBA courses, around 70% of stocks are non-liquidated and is owned by executives. So why they may have a lot of wealth, they have limited access to it.
Next, many people, like me, have negative wealth either in home loans or student loans. That is arguably not bad. It shows that we are willing to give out loans to people to make big purchases knowing the chances of them paying it off is high. I was given a lot of student loans in my 20s, a guy with no real job and low income. That says something about our nation when that can happen. I have negative wealth. However, I still have my own apartment, a car, 3 meals a day, etc. A homeless guy on the street has more wealth than me assuming they have no debt. So by your standard that homeless guy is better off than me.

Yep, all worth it for a virus that the vast majority has an over 99% chance of dying from.
What is sad is that our nation has a long history of taking on challenges, including diseases, to advance and live life. Think about how our nation grew. People loaded up on a big boat and traveled across a ocean to come here. People, in the mid 1800s, loaded up their wagons, placing themselves and their family in danger of diseases like malaria, small pox, cholera, etc. where man died. Over 20,000 died on the Oregon trail. But people still did it. But with covid people freaked out. Sad knowing the history of our nation.
