How would a background check stop this shooting?
13
Not really. Using "common sense" is not an argument. It is a smoke screen.
7
tripplefive, I agree with holding parents accountable to a point, but how do you enforce it? The gun is in the home. There is only so much space to lock it up. Even locking it up in a safe many kids know the codes so they can get them and shoot them if they want. Most parents trust their kids. So there is that barrier to cross which isn't easy. It starts going down the route of the government raising the kids.
6
What new law would stop this?
3
They are not "commons sense" as there is a strong argument against all of those points.
3
Spence, what Trump overturned was the fact that there wasn't any due process. You can't take away rights from people without due process.
2
Notice how Bernie threw up the distraction of healthcare when he starts talking about a topic he knows nothing about.
2
What new law would have stopped this shooting? This is why Bernie calls them "common sense" gun laws. They are not "common sense" as there is an argument against them and Bernie would not be able to explain how these laws would stop anything.
2
Hamish, even with a license the gun is still there. As for having it "secured" many allow kids to have access to their guns as they know their kids are responsible. Also, it creates a situation like this https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/17-year-old-girl-defends-home-intruder/

Many reasons to dislike him. He never had a real job until he was 40, and at that point it is a career in politics. In debates when he is pushed on issues he becomes very perturbed to the point he is angered and falls to talking points. He has no desire to understand other people's positions. All he wants to do is attack the poor. He is a career, corrupt politician.
1
sabin97, he never had a steady, long term job until he was 40. Most middle class workers had one when they were in their mid 20s. When he finally got one it was as a politician. He stole electricity from his neighbor and rallied along side radial socialists and said breadlines are good. As for issues, when pressed he always goes to the same talking points. Take healthcare for example. When pressed he says something along the lines of "we need to discuss why we are the only major country on earth that does not provide healthcare as a right to its citizens". A few flaws there. One, healthcare is not a right in other countries and cannot be a right here. Next, that issue has been discussed in great detail by scholars and experts. Two professors, on from the University of Iowa and one from Texas A&M wrote an entire book on it entitled "The Business of Health". There are papers out there that discuss each system and the reality is that it is very complex. Take the situation during the debate with Cruz when the hair salon owner asked Bernie a question on how she can pay healthcare insurance to her employees. Bernie's answer was "you have to do it". She asked how. He said he did not know and proceeded to go on a rant showing he has no idea how a business operates and admits it. Compare that to Bill Clinton when in 1994 Herman Cain posed the same question. Clinton had actual stats and data and showed he understands what businesses go through. That is why Clinton was so likeable and Bernie isn't. I disagreed with Clinton but he at least understood how a business operates and that his policies were going to hinder progress in them. I can give many examples if you want. Fact is that Bernie has a handful of responses on issues that he gives over and over again when pressed. He never gets into details. He caters to a very low informed crowd on the issues and takes advantage of people's ignorance to remain a politician. That makes him corrupt.
1
I meant to say attack the rich, but Bernie's policies are not going to help the poor either.
1
terrej123, Bernie makes stupid arguments himself. Saying "living wage" and "fair share" and "common sense gun legislation" are not arguments. They are talking points designed to cater to people who refuse to think. Take living wage for example. Sure, it would be great if people earned a "living wage". Now what is a "living wage". What factors do you set and why? I can easily show that is paid $6/hr I can live in my city and save $200 a month. Bernie has canned responses to any topic and keeps repeating them over and over again. That is why people do not like him and that is why he has zero chance of being president.
1
inflameswetrust2 1, you say he presses for "common sense". Immediately your lost the argument as these issues are not common sense as there is an argument against them to begin with. As I said earlier 2 professors wrote an entire book on health care that goes against what Bernie rallies for.
1
inflameswetrust2 1, uh Texas A&M has a strong science program. Science is related to health. Also, is that your only argument against them? Nothing else? Now you see why people hate Bernie and his fans. They have no arguments. Ironically your statement about Iowa and Texas A&M is an argument against tuition free college. If those programs are so poor why pay to send kids there? Bernie cannot develop arguments to support his ideas.
1
inflameswetrust2 1, how does Texas A&M have a strong Christian lean? Also, you are pulling a logical fallacy. They cite all their sources and methods
1
inflameswetrust2 1, i am a doctotal student myself. In reality the right cites literature all the time. At the very core the right bases their ideas on facts and logic, the left bases their ideas on emotions. Not saying one side is better than the other, just stating that is how it is.
1
inflameswetrust2 1, how will Bernie pay and provide health care? And what will be the drawbacks?
1
inflameswetrust2 1, so you don't want to look at opposing viewpoints? Just like Bernie.
1
inflameswetrust2 1, i never said universal health care won't work. I am saying the issue is very complex. When we do discuss it like Bernie wants the answers don't support him due to how complex the issue is
1
inflameswetrust2 1, do you see why people hate Bernie and his fans? They refuse to listen to the other side. That is one of many reasons.
1
So you refuse to read something and inform yourself? I can see why you are a Bernie fan.
1
inflameswetrust21, I cannot engage in dialogue if you refuse to read sources from opposing viewpoints. I gave you reasons why I do not like Bernie. I pointed to an entire book and you said you will not read it and made a logical fallacy of the two universities. I pointed out the problem in your logic and you now proceeded to claim I gave you an insult. I am not insulting you. I am showing you your flaws. We do you refuse to read opposing viewpoints?
1
jimothyshorts, most gang members buy guns underground. A license is pointless as most gun owners are law abiding citizens to begin with. You are just placing more barriers on them. Also, you can drive a car without a license, it just has to be on private land. Just like you can conceal a gun without a license in your home where in a lot of states you need a license when you are out in public. It is a difference between public and private.
1
Asian Dude Does Life, I feel holding parents responsible is a route, but it is not clear how. Take this case for example https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/17-year-old-girl-defends-home-intruder/ Limiting her access means she would have been harmed.
1
Andres, so popular he won.......
1
Andres, if people believe in Bernie why are his policies not getting passed when put up to a vote? And why are Justice Democrats getting destroyed right now?
1
Lavia, he still lost.
1
Andres, Justice Democrats were not doing well to begin with. Also, I am still waiting for the "revolution" to take off under Bernie.
1
Bernie is corrupt. He owns three homes and then complains about rich people.
1
" one home was inherited by his wife from her relative and another was a gift. He also has the lowest net worth in Congress by a mile. Try again." Saying he has the lowest net worth is similar to saying he is the skinniest guy at a fat camp. He is still fat. Also, he could have donated that home to someone or sold it and donated the money. Why does he need more than his fair share of homes?
1
Bernie has a high approval rating because he was never attacked by the RNC. The RNC wanted him to win as they had a folder rumored to be 2 feet think on dirt on Bernie. The American people are not going to vote for a career government worker who never had a job until he was 40, who is now a socialist that wants to give free shit to lazy people, and stole electricity from his neighbor. Sorry, people work too hard to support a man like that.
1
"Incorrect. Sorry if his policies trigger you. " Not a counter argument. The RNC never attacked Bernie. "Hes a jew wasn't really a winning tactic, but if think so go right ahead. " Him rallying with socialist, supporting Fidel Castro, stealing electricity from his neighbor, going to the USSR for his honeymoon, saying breadlines are good, supporting a 90% tax rate. That is a great start to bury Bernie. "Teaching preschoolers in a Head Start program Carpenter (possibly freelance; it doesn't say) Freelance writer Signing people up for food stamps in connection with a nonprofit called the Bread and Law Task Force Researching property taxation for the Vermont Department of Taxes" None of them are careers. Pre school teachers are part time and mostly volunteer. He never earned a teaching degree. Being a freelance writer and carpenter is not a career, you need something steady. Bernie never had a steady job, known as a career, until he was 40. Most have it by their mid 20s.

We don't have universal healthcare because implementing it would be impossible in a nation of 320+ million people with a nearly $20 trillion economy. Also, universal healthcare is not popular. 80% said no in Colorado when put up to a vote.
1
Desphinx 1. Defense is around $700 million. Healthcare is 1/6 of our GDP. You do the math. 2. People saw the tax increases. Also, it is illegal to use government funds for abortions to begin with. 3. Yes it does. Polls have been shown to be off and the questioning of them are flawed. You point to polls where how the people are voting differs greatly.
1
Franz Aussie, we can ban concerts and the Las Vegas shooting would have been preventable. You won't support that, though, because to you attacking guns and guns alone is the only solution. For the record I do not support banning concerts either, I just realize there are other options besides banning things.
1
Correct. When people give Bernie hard questions he resorts to talking points. He is a fraud all around.
1
Ben H, what new law would have stopped previous shootings?
1
Also, to add, if no new law would have stopped this shooting then why bring the idea up? Why not just chalk this incident up as a tragic accident and more on? Why get political?
1
Bam Westy, define "mentally ill". That is a broad term. I am, by definition, "mentally ill" due to an illness I have. I am not a threat to anyone.
1
Ben H, that is not a problem of law but a problem of people enforcing it. What does adding more laws do?
1
Define "reasonable".
1
Desphinx, I watched the video. Bernie also went to polls which are very flawed. If people are so concerned about new gun safety laws why do they keep voting in politicians who are pro gun? 90% is a high rate. Also, the NRA makes up a very minute portion of donations. They are essentially irrelevant.
1
He doesn't. He rants on the same handful of talking points. That is why the republicans laughed when his name was brought up in a primary debate.
1
Cross Counter, requiring parents to lock up their guns can lead to the death or rape of this girl https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/17-year-old-girl-defends-home-intruder/
1
sabin97, I was raised around guns, so were my friends and family. It is not out of the norm.
