It isn't a big deal. That church is a non-profit organization and when they applied for the grant they ranked 5th out of 44 which is high enough to receive money. What was preventing them from receiving money is simply the fact that it was a church. Beyond that they are a non-profit organization like the Boys and Girls Club and thus the same rules should apply. Denying them money is actually unconstitutional as it discriminates base on religion. The SC is right on this one.

kr00m, non-profit organizations are tax exempt. When they applied for the grant they are no different then other non-profit organizations.

That church also had to apply for a grant and be scored against 43 other non-profit organizations. So it wasn't like the state just gave the money to the church.

Write a grant proposal and justify your position.

If someone can't afford food and healthcare do we let them starve and die?

Steve Joseph, read the 1st amendment. It says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" This money given to that church does not establish a religion nor prohibit the free exercise thereof. This money is given to a non-profit organization on the basis that it is a non-profit organization. And it is for a non-religious reason as a non-profit organization like the Boys and Girls Club can also have playground.

Kyle doesn't research these topics. He just panders to an ignorant audience.

Religious schools have been receiving funding for non-religious things for years. This is nothing new.

The church is non-profit and applied for a grant for non-profit organization and scored 5th out of 44 which is enough to receive money. They were denied money only because they were a religious institution which is unconstitutional as it is the government discriminating base on religion. The money is being given in a way that does not establish a religion nor prevent the practicing of and thus this does not violate the 1st amendment. There is no slippery slope here. Money is given to private catholic schools for specific programs all the time. As long as that money is spent on that program and it does not establish a religion then it is fine. To make a comparison liberals will love, the government gives money to Planned Parenthood and they cannot use that money for abortions. Similar here, the money has to be use in a secular way for that specific requirement.

Same reason why individuals who don't pay taxes receive tax dollars.
