Yep, do what the government says with no question. What could go wrong?

@joanignasi91 and some states do not require masks and are having no problems. There are many factors to it. Reality is that this virus is not that deadly.

The issue is if the government should be allowed to force you to wear things for "safety". Should the government force people with a non curable STD to wear a mark so no one has sex with them?
1
@Themata by law you are, especially for HIV.

@ralfsstuff the point is why not? Why not give marks of shame? Also, it is about virtue signaling and hypocrisy at this point by the left. On June 1 Biden gave a speech in a church where he took off his mask and walked down the aisle getting close to people. But then turns around and rips on Trump for not wearing a mask. Or Jim Acosta talking about following CDC guidelines of wearing a mask but does not follow social distancing. It is rules for thee and not for me.

@iamteslaspigeon6438 sure, but again, it is government forcing us to wear something out of "safety". As for seatbelts, there are a few points there. One, seat belts are known to save lives through many models and just basic physics. Next, every state requires one to have car insurance which is directed to if a person gets hurt in an accident, so it is an effort to keep insurance costs down. Also, there are arguments to be made if they should be forced to wear. In some states a helmet is not required for a motorcycle. But you did not know that

@douglaslangley9251 people still listen to Fauci?

Or you can just hide in your closet.

J G at this point, in the US, the left is. The virus is not that deadly.
1
@joanignasi91 in the big picture it isn't. In 2015 nearly 60 million died. So how big is 500,000? Also, in the US there is evidence that much more have been infected. A CDC director suggests that the infection case numbers is 10 times than what is stated. And a Penn State study suggests that early on case numbers were actually over 80 times than what is recorded. That suggests over 5 million cases in NY. Around half the deaths have been in nursing homes. So yes, the virus is not that deadly.

@joanignasi91 you can't just throw numbers out there and expect them to mean anything.

J G people die for many reasons. I had a friend who was in a traffic accident that died. So I guess I should be scared and stop driving based on your standard. And what rights did gays lack? Besides, you are trying to lump me in a group without knowing my actual stance.
1
J G there is not right to marriage. Also, gay people could have always been married, the law will just not recognize it. Seatbelts have more to it. For one, there is a plethora of data showing it saves lives, one being very basic physics called inertia. Next, you also have the issue of car insurance laws where all states require it. So there is that side of it as well. As for a political statement, the issue is that many on the left go against many CDC guidelines. Jerry Mason was supposedly ridiculed by Trump for wearing a mask during a press conference but he did not practice social distancing. Biden, many times, was not wearing a mask such as on June 1 while giving a speech in a church. But then he turns around and will say he will make them mandatory. Rules for thee but not for me. When our leaders act like that people will disobey.

@joanignasi91 for the most part I would agree. I take precautions and calculated risk but I live life. If you want to live in fear go ahead, I won't.
1
@joanignasi91 I agree. Here is a point on that. Around 7500 die a day on average in the US. We do not talk about that. We talk about people dying of school shootings or a terrorist attack. Why? Because they are rare and isolated events and should be treated as such. Same with a situation that happened with George Floyd. Think about that.
1
@krytenfivetwothreep2485 and that is the issue on gay marriage. None of that was discussed. I agree with what you mentioned but why not think about why the law is written the way it is? Why can't I have a friend make a medical decision for me? Why does it have to be a spouse? So it goes beyond gay marriage.
