  1. Insurance should be for disasters or accidents,much like car insurance. The reason why healthcare insurance is so bad is because of the payroll tax established by the federal government. Employers could not give out raises without being taxed more so they gave out benefits that were 100% tax free, such as healthcare insurance. They gave out generic plans to everyone. So instead of consumers forcing insurance companies to compete and buying insurance that suits them, and also forcing healthcare companies to compete, both which drives down the price. What we have is this mess here. You can blame insurance companies all you want but this stems from the federal government.
