Paid holidays are you getting paid on the holiday without working.  Paid vacation is you taking a day off and getting paid.  So say you take the last two weeks of December off.  You can use 13 vacation days and get paid and get paid on Christmas as a paid holiday, the other 13 days are paid vacation.

MegaMetal96 I am no rich, and no one is working for 30 cents an hour in the US.  We are a developed nation and these fears that people bring up that businesses would do is false.   I have posted links in another comment that showed the vast majority of private sector workers already have sick paid days and they are around 8 days a year.  Businesses already provide these benefits.  We don't need these "worker's rights" because the only real people pushing for them are lazy people who are unwilling to work.

BramSLI1 This is my problem with liberals, you look at other states and feel the people there are oppressed and vulnerable but in reality they just want to live their lives and mind their own business.  They have power to elect their own officials and create a system that works for them.  They are happy with it, but liberals on the outside in other states feel they are "poor" and "vulnerable" and need "help".  There is a reason why democrats lost the midterms, people don't like the federal government invading in on their lives.  The majority of people like to mind their own business and don't want your "help". A major reason why I support state rights is that it creates a system where people can mind their own business.  Stop imposing your government, and ultimately your way of life on other people.

  11. dangerouslytalented Taxes are not always expanding the wealth of everybody or to protect people.  Plus, you don't need taxes to create wealth.  Taxes typically discourage the creation of wealth.  Why work hard if your money is going to be taken away?  People who become rich do it through hard work.

BramSLI1 People who become rich do so on hard work.  Yes, there were others who did other things but in the end it was the individual that put in the hours and investment to become wealthy.  Take, for example, Michael Phelps.  Yes, someone had to build the pool he swam in but it was his hard work and himself putting in the hours to practice to get better.  He did that on his own.  Just like me getting my PhD.  Yes, there are janitors who keep the building functioning, there were workers who built the building, but I am the one who is putting in the hours and work to become wealthy, and if that building didn't exist I would find another way to become wealthy.  Businesses and corporations thrive due to individuals hard work, they will find a way to become successful.  It isn't their fault that others refuse to put in the effort to succeed.  People like you are incredibly greedy wanting to take what others worked hard for.  The funny thing is that people who are generally wealthy are some of the most giving and helpful in our society.  Where as you, you just want to take what they worked hard for.

BramSLI1 Why?  Because I come up with an intelligent rebuttal?  You feel that those who are rich didn't work for it, that they had a lot of help along the way and that the fruits of their labor should be forced to given to those who refuse to work hard.  Instead of wanting to have an actual intelligent discussion on this you call me a troll.  You know, I can see why you support the things you do.  You lack the intelligence and work ethics to succeed.  You want others to do all the work and you get the credit.  This is why we do have a growing income disparity.  We have a group of people who refuse to work hard.   You only consider me a troll because you lack the intelligence to actually know what is going on in our society or to even care.

  14. BramSLI1 The roads I used were locally funded.  The police force is locally funded. The plumbing is locally funded.  I have told you my position on state rights and a stronger local government.  I have told you my position on how we need a federal government for foreign policies.  I have no problem paying taxes if it creates a government that works for me and ultimately the people.  The vast  majority of feel that way.  What we don't like is someone creating their government and forcing it down other people's throats at the federal level. Ultimately, though, it was me putting in the hours and effort to succeed.  The vast majority of society could have decided to  do what I do, work hard, work for a PhD, or invest to start a business, or work to become successful, they just choose not too.  But in the end it comes down to is that the individual worked hard to become well off.

BramSLI1 Actually getting a PhD is rather cheap.  Most colleges offer some sort of assistantship to pay for tuition and  a stipend along with heath insurance.  Getting an undergrad degree is affordable if you pick a cheap college like I did and work hard.  Plus, almost everyone qualifies for a loan and if you get a degree that is actually worth something than it is easy to pay off. This whole "poor me" attitude needs to stop.  I wasn't in a rich family, I was taught work ethics and used it to get better.

  16. dangerouslytalented In grad. school most students receive assistantships.  A lot of businesses will pay for your grad. studies as well, for example a business will pay for you to get your MBA. Even at that there are cheap options for graduate school like there are cheap options for undergrad.  Once again, it requires work and some time and money management.

BramSLI1 It isn't about achieving the same level of success, it is about working hard.  If you need help you should ask friends and family for help.  Ask the church you go to for help.  If you don't have friends and family to help and you can't make it on your own than what are you worth to society?  I know it sounds "wrong" but it is the truth. So you are part of a church.  How many people have you actually help?  When I was a part of a church I was a part of a group that helped raise money for a family whose house burnt down and lost most of their possessions.  That is what strong communities.  What we should not be doing is forcing people with threat of incarceration to "help" people who they have no connections with.  You talking about praying for me, great, but how about you actually do something.  You have no problem forcing people with the federal government is doing something, how about you do something yourself.  We need more doers in our society and not enforcers.

France has a lot of days, they also have high unemployment.  Who ends up paying in the end is the consumer and workers through higher prices and less pay.  Republicans want lower taxes, so the talking points on taxes Kyle is trying to make is off.  And if we are just going to make a Christmas list on what the government should give us than I am going to ask for a nice car to use on their roads, because roads are pointless if I don't have a car.  I am going to ask for a nice, warm home to keep me from getting sick so I don't waste tax dollars on sick days and universal healthcare.  I am going to ask for a bottle of Remy Martin because you know, why not?  They are taking my money so I should demand the government to give me what I want.  This mentality that one, we need the federal government to give us things, and two, just wanting handouts needs to stop.  I sometimes wish for some of these things to pass so when crap really gets bad people will learn, or just suffer, doesn't matter to me.  Most likely the latter will happen.  I am a highly skilled person and will always have a well paying job.

Ylze Tyr Ok, so I work had, develop skills, earn my degrees, push myself on getting a job with more responsibilities, what do you want me to do?  Continue living in a studio while eating Mac and Cheese?  Drive a POS car or just take the bus?  Not enjoy the fruits of my labor so someone else who doesn't push themselves or work hard can get more money?  Is that what you want, to bring people down?  Why?  Why are you so jealous that you want to bring successful people down?  Where is this rage coming from?  To me you are the greedy jealous type.  You see a successful person and you want to bring them down with threat of incarceration from the government. It is sad and pathetic.  Basically you feel that a worker doing a job that a high school student can do should get the same benefits as the manager or business owner.  It is sad and it is people like you who will refuse to take on any responsibilities in life but feel the need to tell others how to spend their money or run their businesses.  Being an armchair business owner must be easy.

  21. ***** Germany also has a different society.  They are a society that has a lot of guards in airports with sub machine guns.  As my professor put it, Germany is full of a bunch of goose steppers.  Just because is supposedly works there (and that is debatable), doesn't mean it will work in the US.  Also, as I said in other comments, if this was to be enforced in the US prices will go up.  Cost of living is higher Germany than in the US.  That is typical when comparing the US to European countries.  For example only Switzerland has a higher local purchasing power than the US  http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Germany/United-States/Cost-of-living Here in 2015 Obamacare is finally being taken into effect fully, I have already seen higher prices.  If we were to enforce pay sick days prices will go up even more.

TylerMantup Most jobs in the private sector offer pay sick days.  I expect people to be treated well, I just understand that businesses simply can't afford to give pay sick days.  You are saying that I am filth but yet you have no problem forcing businesses to basically become charities which requires them to raise prices and that makes it harder for those who are low income.

  24. sharper68 Look at cost of living in the US compared to other countries.  Cost of living is low in the US.  If you forced businesses to give paid sick days than the cost will get passed onto the consumers leading to higher prices and making it worse off for those on low income.  These rules have hurt other countries.

Niklas Hansen Go to your site, change to GDP by PPP (purchasing power purity i.e. cost of living) and you will see that the US is then number 2.  Yes, people earn more money in other countries than the US, but the purchasing power they have is low thus their cost of living is higher.  So basically, the extra money they have means nothing.

Niklas Hansen Walmart doesn't receive subsidizes.  The people working there do.  That isn't Walmart's fault.  All Walmart did was offer them a job and pays them at the market rate.  Your whole living wage argument is shallow.  A "living wage" is subjective.  You are paid based on the market rate, not some artificial value called the "living wage".  If is up to the individual to find a way to make a living either by cutting expenses or finding a way to earn money. As I told you before in those other countries they have a higher cost of living due to those mandated sick leave and vacation and maternity.  We will find the same thing here if we did that.  Obamacare is already costing us jobs and higher health insurance. The money has to come from somewhere.

  29. Matthew Dolby A lot of businesses do offer pay sick leave, the BLS stats have shown that.  If you are working a job where you could lose it due to being sick than you need to find a new one.

Ylze Tyr You are comparing a complex economy with the price of a burger in McDonalds, think about that.  Also, there are other ways for companies to cut costs, such as less hours and less raises.  They could also close down their doors earlier or close down a couple building in a city.  You also have to consider that 0.7% increase is devastating in a lot of ways.  I am no longer eating at a restaurant because they raised their prices recently few cents.  It makes a difference.

Ylze Tyr Now you are just trolling.  The issue in the video is how the US doesn't mandate paid sick leave or maternity leave or vacation.  That is where the cost being passed onto the consumer comes too.  This is he whole discussion, this is the whole debate in how other countries mandate that private businesses offer them but the US doesn't.   For federal employees, tax payers will pay it.  It isn't me dodging the question, it is me working on more important stuff than entertain your stupidity.
