On administration cost you are ignoring the fact that medicare will just pass a lot of cost onto other government agencies, that is why taxes will have to more double. They are not overestimating. I suggest you read the study again.

  13. It is an economic fallacy to say that increasing demand without increasing supply will lead to lower cost. The reality is that medicare for all will cost more. Anyone who says medicare for all will be cheaper have to make a lot of unreasonable assumptions to come up with a number that is barely lower than what we are paying now. And again, that study was just for public spending only.

I am not opposed to background checks, but you can't enforce background checks on every transaction without a gun registry. I support paid leave if a business wants to do it. Around 70% of workers in the US have it already. The free marker is very successful. On healthcare you feel the government has a magic wand and cure everyone.   28. Raizhen010, the free market has the best track record in solving our problems and progressing us the most. There is a desire to have government, but it must always be controlled. Medicare, medicaid and SS are all running out of money. And yes, FDR worsened the depression. The numbers justify that. I am not saying the free market will solve all problems, no system does. That is the reality. I can admit that. However, you feel the government can solve all of our problems despite its very poor track record. You are looking for some magical, ideal solution when none exist. This is why I am a moderate and you are a radical. I can admit flaws and shortcomings in any system, you can't. I never suggested privatizing the post office. However, it was the private sector that forced the post office to improve. Fire departments are privatized in some areas. In others they are short resources thus they have volunteers. The government cannot even provide funds for fire fighters but you feel it can for healthcare. I never said the road system should be completely privatized. But tell me, how can a government who cannot provide enough funds for fire fighters going to fund healthcare?

If something tragic happens to my parents I have to fly 1500 miles to see them and pay over $400 to do so. I also have to take time off of work. I choose the life I did. Also, when did I ever support separation of children from families? Try to stay on topic. Saying "human decency" is not really a strong argument. There is an argument to be made there, but in the end economics and life does not care. Resources are short and people still need to produce.

Just because they are happy does not mean they are in the best situation they can be. As for being healthier, that is a culture thing. The US has a culture of eating poorly which is why we have high obesity rates. That has little to do with paid time off and mostly to do with life style choices. Also, many of those European countries are behind the US in productivity. Time released the most productive OECD countries in the world and the US was ranked 5th beaten by only Belgium, Norway, Ireland and Luxembourg. Norway produces a lot of oil which is why their number is so high and Luxembourg is a tax haven which is why their number is so high. I love how you bring up cancer and the UK where the US has higher cancer survival rates. So people in the UK would benefit coming to the US if they get cancer. Businesses that don't offer time off can't afford it. They are typically hiring part time and short term workers. What's your point? The restaurant industry is big on this. Most workers there are short term and move on to higher paying jobs. Businesses think long term, that is why they offer retirement plans.

  43. What studies? And again, you cannot quantify happiness. I do have benefits with my job. I receive the graduate student insurance and when I go to the student health center I pay $0. As a grad student I coordinate my work schedule with my boss and I get time off if needed.

He was asked a question on the min. wage on how he will prevent prices from going up and he just went on a rant about how there are poor people, and how no one can live off of the min. wage. He didn't answer the question. A business owner asked him about regulations and he went on a rant about millionaires and billionaires. On healthcare when he is pushed on that issue he rants about how other countries have it as a right. Bernie never gets into details on his ides. He only had talking points.

That study? Yeah, I read it. They said their number was a conservative estimate and they published the lower bound. Chances are it would cost more. Also, it as just for public spending and does not include private spending. As for administration cost, they are underestimating that as well. The issue with medicare is that they pass on a lot of administration cost to other government agencies such as the IRS where insurance companies don't have that luxury.
