Some people do believe it or not. You can't just shame people who work multiple jobs. Psychologist Adam Grant in his book "Originals" talks about how successful people do many activities.

@daniellove162 , I agree. My second job is substitute teaching for the school district. I earn $80 a day to do it. I choose when I can do it. In doing it I enjoy the experience of seeing parts of the city I usually don't schools I won't see otherwise, working with the kids, teaching them different topics, etc. It is fun for me and I learn new experiences.

@Nicole-ww4lg , I agree, it is hard to find accurate stats, that is my point. Kyle jumping to a conclusion that people working multiple jobs is inherently bad is based on nothing. It is similar to those who work over 40 hours a week. How many do it by choice? How many enjoy working that many hours a week? Think of business owners, they are on the clock 24/7. What Fox News is saying that it is great that there are opportunities for people to work more than one job. Doesn't matter if they have to or if they want to. In my case I want to as I earn extra spending cash for luxury items and I do enjoy it. I am all for changing things but the situation you are in does not represent the norm. I suggest you seek help from your local community in some way.

You can't just claim this is bad. Many people do many jobs and enjoy doing it. One may be for extra income. I work a second job so I can spend it on fun things like going to the bar with a friend and buying them lunch. Some like the jobs for enjoyment. Adam Grant in his book "Originals" talks about successful people are those who do multiple projects. Kyle, as usual, give his opinion with no evidence. This isn't say that all people who work multiple jobs are fine with it. But Kyle's claim of 95% is based on what?

@thepolishlatinofromphilly9709 , it is, though. I am a sports official which is a "job" as I do get money and have to file for taxes. People do that for fun. Or how about youth coaches, that is a job to them. It is fun. . Or what about retired people working part time for fun?

So at that point how many are working multiple jobs just for pure enjoyment or extra income they don't need? "Most successful people are poor little rich kids" Uh, really? You are going to pull that card?

Who say they suffered? I work more than one job. I don't have to but I do for extra money that I really don't need but like to have. Many people work a second job for fun. It is just like a retired person working part time, they do it for fun.

@Overton_Windows , I do hear what you are saying. Claiming that people working multiple jobs is a bad thing is a stretch. Are there people who do so to make ends meet? Yes. But how many are there? Compare that to how many work multiple jobs simply for extra spending cash for luxury items, or for fun, or are young college students and are close to getting a degree and a better job? As with everything I need more information to make a conclusion.

Kyle and his fans jumping to a conclusion that people working multiple jobs is a bad thing is based off of nothing. How many work multiple jobs but don't have to? Consider this, we are a nation that is very materialistic. 40% of the American food dollar is spent eating out which is high compared to other nations. We consume a lot as a nation here. Consider how many people want the new smart phone with new apps. I am not saying this is bad, but how many people work many jobs just so they can buy luxury items?

@XIII_Vanitas , to start, what is a "living wage". Next, I agree stats don't show everything, that is my point. You can't just look at the situation of people working more than one job and consider it to be completely bad. You need more information. Just like people who work more than 40 hours a week. How many do so because they enjoy it? I work well over 40 hours week, that is because my projects are my personal projects that I take joy in.

Football-Pundit , that is my point, there is no data to suggest on if most people do enjoy a 2nd job or not. Thus you cannot make a strong claim like Kyle does. With Fox News they are correct. It is great the people have the opportunity to work more than one job, whether it be to make ends meet or for extra spending cash for luxury items.

@XIII_Vanitas , define "regular life". I am able to walk to work. I can also walk to my grocery store if I wanted and have. Also, what about roommates? With roommates rent is cheaper. Do you factor that in? This is why the phrase "living wage" does not mean anything. it is purely an appeal to emotion statement.

Cuthulhu In the deep , that is deceptive. Is that based only on savings? Do they have insurance? Do they have friends and family who can help? How do they manage money? I need more information. You say I don't deal with facts. Well, give me more facts? You can't just give me one and make a strong conclusion based off if it.

@Apple S , a part of being successful is being able to multitask and adjust quickly. Sorry, but if work is that much of a distraction to you while you are in college you will not be a good employee.

Cuthulhu In the deep , ok, I don't deny the facts. But let us dig deeper. You see, facts are the starting point of a discussion. You can take a set of facts and give it to two different experts on the topic and you can get two completely, but legit analysis of the issue. So let us dig farther. Of those feeling they won't be able to retire after 65, the 46%, how may actually managed their money well? What is their standard of retirement? Is it not working at all? Working part time? Having a beach home to retire at? That is not listed in the articles you sent me. Where do these people live? As I did at the very beginning, we need more information. You can't just throw a fact out there and come up with a strong conclusion. These issues are complex. You accuse me of denying things when I never deny facts. I dig deeper. Consider Bloom's Taxonomy. What is the very bottom? Knowledge which is recognizing or memorizing facts. Now what is at the top? Evaluation. This is where opinions come in. Not to be rude but right now you are at the knowledge level in this discussion where I am around step 4 which is analysis.

@Apple S , working while in college is a part of the college experience. College is an investment. It shows employers you are willing to invest time and money to achieve a long term goal. You need to work to pay bills so you do work. Also, working shows employers you are also willing to manage many tasks and develop a schedule. I worked multiple jobs in college in my undergrad and still do as a grad student. I graduate with two degrees with a 3.3 GDP. Out of the 10 graduate programs I applied to only one said no, that was John Hopkins. Every other school said yes where I received an invite to one for a tour (Central Florida) and another a professor personally invited me to work in his group. I contribute that to the jobs I worked and had on my resume. I am also able to connect with many people because of the jobs I worked. It is about expanding yourself as a person. If all you do is go to college and don't work you get pigeonholed and don't expand as a person and can't connect well with people. You see that with many people in academics. Also, successful people explore many options and place themselves in a position to succeed by working harder. A part of that is working while in college.

@givemeinformation , you can't compare the min. wage to inflation as not everything inflates. Also, why not use Boskin Commission adjustment, or PCE inflation?

AnotherWacko , food has arguably dropped in price. Many appliances use less energy where that saves you money, same with cars. College education is not a necessity plus the price went up because the government subsidizes it. Same is with rent. There is plenty of evidence to show that the price of labor is outpacing inflation the past few decades. You point to simply two stats, the min. wage and cpi inflation. You ignore the other plethora of stats and variables available.

@rickywilliams9937 , you can't compare the min. wage to inflation like that as there are flaws in inflation measures. You say goods and services were cheaper than when I can easily argue goods and services are cheaper now. Take a car for example. While the sticker price on a car is higher, cars get better gas mileage, are safer and last longer which saves people money. You claim other people don't understand math which is ironic in how you don't understand inflation, the many methods in measuring it (CPI, PCE, Boskin Commission adjustment) and the flaws behind inflation measurements to begin with.

AnotherWacko Why do so many earn the min. wage in your town? By what you described a min. wage increase will kill your entire town. Why do so much of your pay go to healthcare? You are talking about your individual case but not looking at the norm. College is an investment. At times you have to go into debt. Think of the payoff at the end. That's life. Sometimes you have to take steps back before you go forward. Compare it to a business owner taking out a loan to start a business. Do older appliances really last longer? And if they do how much do they cost in the long run? How much energy do they use up? Why has food prices gone up? Maybe it is that the federal government subsidizes it.

AnotherWacko , do they live below the poverty line? When you adjust for cost of living OK is around the middle of the pack in poverty rates. Also, I know people in small towns don't earn much. I grew up by a lot of small towns. I have also seen how the min. wage killed them as they have limited resources and can't afford higher wages. So raising the min. wage will simply kill the jobs there. Public schools are dependent on more than just tax dollars. It is mainly culture. Compare NV and MA. NV is ranked poorly in public education. Why? Many will blame the schools where in reality it is a culture issue. Where is the incentive to be educated when you can make 6 figures working in the mines, or make a good living doing construction, or make $80,000 a year parking cars or serving drinks? The culture there does not hold education at a high priority. Now compare that to MA, home of Harvard, MIT, Boston College, Boston University, etc. Education is a higher priority there as seen in more 4 year colleges per capita compared to NV. So it goes beyond public schools. Walmart pushed for a min. wage increase mainly to kill small competitors. If OK is really that bad than either move or change it. That is the beauty of state rights. A major problem I have with the far left an "populist" is that one of these three 1. Ignorant 2. Fascist 3. Lazy On each one 1. They are simply ignorant in how our country and government functions. 2. They are fascist in that they have their ideas and feel everyone should adapt to them and thus want a centralized government forcing their way on others including states that don't want programs the far left wants 3. They are lazy in that they see problems in their area and instead of either moving or fixing the problems in their area they want to use centralized government to do it. Not to be rude but if you are having problems in your area like that you either have to move or change. Pick one.
