People die in every nation due to shortcomings in healthcare.

Healthcare is not a right. You can't make it a right in this nation.
5
Phil, rights in this nation are things the government cannot take away without due process. They are not promises.
3
I actually agree with you for once.
3
It isn't "common sense" as there are legit arguments against it.
3
The Canadian Crusader, it is called "indentured servitude" which is unconstitutional and strips people away from their freedoms.
2
SodaBoy628, you should not force people to serve others they don't want to. How would you feel if the government forced you to clean my house or cook me dinner?
2
Ignar, that is not true at all. There is very little evidence that says universal healthcare will save money and any evidence that exists is based on very vague and questionable assumptions.
2
G Kaiser, in order to make Medicare for all affordable doctors have to take a 40% pay cut. If you make healthcare a right you have to force them to work.
2
Jack Ban, forcing people to serve people is indenture servitude. Doctors refuse people services for several reasons. Fire fighters are not forced to serve anyone, same with police officers. You do not have a right to their services and they can refuse to serve you if they want.
2
Jack Ban, up to 70% of fire fighters are volunteer. So chances are if you are a fire fighter you are sitting at home and get a call while eating dinner. Maybe you can make it, maybe not. Next, fire laws vary by state. Fire departments are ran and funded locally. Some places have a private fire department and there have been cases where they did not put out a fire of someone who did not pay. So it all depends. In many places you can very well be denied services from the fire department.
2
Thomas, to answer your question we pay more for two reasons 1. To subsidize advanced care 2. We lack a free market
2
Once again, polls are unreliable. You are asking a vague question on a complex issue to a group of people who don't understand the topic.
1
The Canadian Crusader, rights in this country are things the government cannot take away without due process. If you make healthcare a right than the government has to provide it to you and can only deny you healthcare if you commit a crime. Also, healthcare requires someone's service which means government would have to force healthcare providers to serve you. Same as with jury duty. People have a right to a trial by jury. If you are called for jury duty and refuse you go to jail.
1
The Canadian Crusader, so you have no problem forcing healthcare providers to serve others?
1
GushChew, what are you talking about?
1
G Kaiser, healthcare does not work better when it is a right. Every nation has shortcomings. When you break it down they are no better than the US.
1
Jack Ban, also, if the situation is too dangerous they can refuse to serve. For example, if someone is caught inside the building they can refuse to enter if the situation is too dangerous. Or if the fire is way out of control they may let the building burn and not let it spread. That happened in my home town. The building was a hardware store and they simply let it burn out and stood there ensuring that it would not spread. It all depends on the situation and local laws.
1
Jack Ban, also, hypothetically speaking, let us say there are no fire fighters. If there is a fire and if you had a right to fire fighters the government will just force people to suit up and put it out. If they refuse they go to jail.
1
Jack Ban, read the court case "Warren vs District of Columbia" on the issue involving police.
1
Jack Ban, the situations you are talking about have been covered.
1
Arshan, Medicare for all will not be cheaper.
1
They will claim that is not real universal healthcare.
1
If you break it down the US is on par with other nations when it comes to healthcare.
1
The Everyday Liberal Show, read the book entitled "The Business of Health". There the authors break down healthcare systems across the world and come up with that conclusion. There are other sources as well that support that case.
1
Cameron, no nation covers everyone, that is why in Australia up to 7000 people die a year on waiting lists waiting for "elective" surgery. Every nation has shortcomings. And no, the US does not have worse outcomes. The outcomes are on par with other nations and in come cases better.
1
SodaBoy628, Australia and New Zealand have a lot of shortcomings in their healthcare systems as well.
1
Hooyahfish, the US has the highest obesity rate amongst OECD nations. High obesity rates increases the chance of infant mortality. Obesity rates are high with the poor and unwanted pregnancies are high with the poor which increases the chance of infant mortality. All of that is based on lifestyle, not healthcare. Let the debating begin.
1
Hooyahfish, lifestyle factors influence stats related to healthcare. And just because people have access to healthcare does not mean their health situation will improve. Read the study entitled "The Oregon Experiment-Effects of Medicaid on Clinical Outcomes" Just because people have access to healthcare does not improve their health situation.
1
bernman23, in order to pay for Medicare for all almost everyone's taxes will have to go up. Most people will be paying more either in dollar amount or lower quality.
1
@henrygustav7948 , mmt is a joke
1
Henry, MMT says that we can fund everything and that government creates money. That is not true. The Federal Reserve controls the money supply. Next, it isn't about being able to pay for things, it is about how you provide it. Increasing money does not increase the amount of goods and services available. That is why you can't say that we can pay for things because you cannot consume what it not there. MMT is designed by hipster economists and it not taken seriously by the majority.
1
KidLoose, even Bernie said that taxes on everyone will have to go up in order to pay for Medicare for all. And yes, MMT is a joke.
1
RandomGamer95, if a CEO employs a lot of people then yes, they are working a lot.
1
Henry, a couple things. One, I studied economics. So I know what I am talking about. Two, I have seen that video. It goes back to what I said, someone has to provide it. You cannot have "excellent schools" if you don't have any teachers or anyone to build it. No amount of money will lead to that if the people to provide those services don't exist. That is why MMT is a joke. Supporters of it feel that money can magically make things appear. Also, you have to consider how much value these things provide. If you over pay for "excellent schools" you create hyperinflation which occurred in the 60s and 70s and took the Fed raising interest rates to 21% to stop. MMT is a joke. It is economics for the very simple minded that ignore the complexity of economics and does not understand the Federal Reserve controls the money supply, not the government.
1
They aren't wrong. The reason why we have Trump is because Democrats are too extreme to the left.
1
Democrats are far left in two ways 1. They have little connection with the common man. If you really think people want to see their taxes doubled to pay for these things than you have a lot to learn 2. SJWs
