Liberals are usually smarter?  Really?  Scientists are liberals?  Really?  There may be a weak correlation but I know several professors and scientists who are usually moderate.  Some vote republican but for the most part they are moderate.  I have been in college for nearly a decade (I am pursuing my PhD) so I do have experience in this.  Plus, remember, Romney won the votes of college grads., Obama won the votes of those without a high school diploma.  Even with all that said, just because you have a piece of paper from a university doesn't mean you are more intelligent than everyone else.  In my experience of college there are a bunch of people who get college degrees, and even get PhD's who are completely clueless in several ways.  To get a PhD you study something for a few years and make around 3 people happy.  So you become and expert in one particular field, present your work to 5 people and make 3 happy.  Not a high sign of intelligence if you were to think about it.
