  1. randomflashbacks, preventative care is over blown. In reality most people can simply eat and live healthier to lower the need for healthcare. The US is in the top 10 in obesity. No healthcare system will solve that.

There are many factors besides healthcare that contribute to those numbers. For example, when you remove car accidents and murders, things not strongly connected to healthcare, than the US is number one in life expectancy. The overall point is that the numbers between the US and Canada are so close that any variable can lead to one being higher than the other, thus you cannot say that one country has better healthcare based on those numbers alone. "Medicare and the VA are more popular with their users than private health insurance industry users." Not really. The VA is a mess and many doctors are no longer taking Medicare.

  5. Ben Shapiro is right. You are going to increase the number of patients doctors will see. Unless you pay them more you are telling them to work harder for, at best, the same pay. That is equal to telling someone who is working 40 hours a week for $1200 to now work 60 hours a week for $1200.

  6. Petar Jovovic, if they leave than other doctors will have to work more. Also, if you make healthcare a right it becomes like Jury duty where people have a right to a jury. If you are called for jury duty and refuse you go to jail.

  7. We're All Doomed, we are short doctors already. The reason why is because 1. People just can't do it (med schools have a less than 50% acceptance rate) 2. People just don't want to put in the work Becoming a doctor isn't like becoming a factor workers or construction worker. It requires years of training and is a highly stressful job.

  9. Jace, with you comment you are simply refusing to have a discussion as to you anyone who disagrees with you does not want to save lives. I don't agree with your ideas, however I will never say that you want people to die. I just think your ideas are not good. I don't want people to die and neither do conservatives. They just have ideas they feel work better and there are many strong points to their arguments. The fact that you can't come up with a legit argument against them simply makes them stronger.

  10. Clint Holmes, saying the ACA will lead to less insured is deceptive. For one, many will simply refuse to buy it when given the choice. Next, the ACA has led to higher prices. If you want people to pay more so more are covered while keeping quality high than fine, but admit that prices will go up. Which is why what Friedman is saying makes no sense. However, if you want to remove the profit incentive then that means less innovation and progress and thus more people dying in the future. We will be using 2017 quality healthcare 20 years from now. So you can go off of the shallow talking point of "less people are covered" when I can go with the more in depth approach that gives a larger story. This is why both sides have legit arguments. Sure, under your way more people will be "covered", but it will come at a higher price and lower quality years from now.

  13. I watched the video and they did not get into specifics. They never talked about the increased demand and how do you overcome personalizing healthcare. Friedman just hand waved his argument. Saying "it will save money" and saying "there is no argument" is not an argument. It is dismissing the other argument all together when the other side has legit points. Friedman is basically pushing for communism in this system. I am not saying that is good or bad, I am saying that is what he is doing. Good luck getting the US to support that system.

  15. That is a very nasty thing to say. You are avoiding discussing the topic as you are saying that unless we support your system than they feel poor people don't deserve healthcare. Reality is that conservatives have different ideas to give high quality healthcare to as many people as possible. They are just different than yours and are just as valid.
