  11. That is how Bernie is. He has nothing but talking points. When pressed on them he can't give details. In this video alone he said talking points of how Medicare is popular, or how he will simply bully companies to lower prices or how other countries do it. Zero details.

  20. @UCbDeFiRw268yvns8uVTBokg , on the 45,000 number there are many flaws for that. To start, compared to other nations is that number high, low or the average? You can't say as no similar study was done in other nations so you can't compare to other nations. Next, it is hard to obtain accurate numbers on that issue. Those 45,000 are poor where, as prof. Katherine Baicker put it, bad health is associated with being poor. Thus did they die due to lack of access or due to being in bad health to begin with? There are higher rates of obesity, smoking and type II diabetes with the poor, all self inflicted. People like that are at high risk of dying to begin with. In the book "Being Mortal" the author there writes how people seek out modern medicine to live another 5 or 10 years but live another 5 or 10 months. So if those 45,000 receive care and live another 5 months while in pain and using up a lot of resources, is that a success? You can't just throw out numbers, you have to give them actual meaning.

Let the states and local governments handle healthcare. Get the federal government out of it.

  27.  Jason H  , it isn't "do nothing". There is the ability to change a system, even through government. But it has to be confined within the Constitution. In the Constitution the powers of the federal government are laid out and the rest are left for the states. There is a desire to have healthcare reform, but what type is very complex and varies across the nation. Thus the states should handle it. A centralized system will not work as the economy is way too complex.

  28.  Jason H  , what makes you think some states are not capable? And there should't be any federal standards, that is not the federal government's job. On federal funds for disasters, that is a debatable issue. One, a part of that is through the defense budget. However, the military cannot act in a state without consent of the governor of that state. Also, disasters are what they are, disasters. They are unplanned. Should the federal government be involved? There are arguments for it and it is within the powers of the Constitution. Healthcare is not a disaster though.

Also, Bernie admitted that Medicare and SS are losing money and we have to expand the payroll tax on the "rich". It is a pure example that eventually you do run out of other people's money. At what point will taxes be high enough? And yes, it does impact me.

  31.  @spetcnaz83  , roads are paid for and ran locally. Same with water. Also, they are a drop in the bucket in cost compared to healthcare. And in some places roads are full of potholes, are dirt roads, no signs, etc. So in some parts of the nation are people going to have low quality of healthcare?
