The easier it is to see if people are getting their money's worth. You have competition from other local governments. The easier it is to change. And when there is a problem it is localized. And the programs can run the way the people want. Take the Flint water issue. As bad as it was it was localized to Flint. Imagine if we had a federal water system and that would have happened? Now compare K-12 education. Different states value education differently. For example, in NV you can make $80,000 a year parking cars, or serving drinks. You can also make 6 figures in the mines. Where is the incentive to become educated in that state? That is their education system ranks low. It isn't the system but the culture. Now compare that to MA, one of the top states in education. That is home to MIT, Harvard, Boston College, etc. High ranking universities. Their culture values education more. Having a centralized system is pushing for a one size fits all system. That won't work as it will favor one area over another. So no, what Bernie is proposing is not the same. In fact, his healthcare policy is dangerous.

  9.  @reefermadnesss  , there is a reason why the founding fathers created state rights. Also, look at the passage of the Community Mental Health Act. The federal government got heavily involved in mental healthcare and could not handle it as in micromanage it. Thus it made mental healthcare worse in this nation. Same as in how Medicare and Medicaid cost so much and drove up healthcare costs.

  10.  @RabiesVariant01  , and there are differences between a local program and a federal one. Local ones are tailored to the needs of the people. Depending on the culture depends on how healthcare functions and how much you actually pursue it. Different areas pursue healthcare for different needs. Same with education. Some people see the doctor for every little thing. Some don't, and the area they live in does drive that. So yes, education and healthcare are comparable. Besides, you are missing the other points I made as well such as micromanaging the system and seeing that it actually serves the people.

  14.  @RabiesVariant01  , it is very relevant. Most don't mind paying taxes and having government programs as long as they get their money's worth. You do that by keeping government spending as local as possible. Also, local communities can run their programs as they want. For example, many places use volunteer fire fighters. With healthcare some places are fine going through charities. Why do you want those people to pay more in taxes to fund a program they don't want? If a local area is fine with charities to help the needy why do you want to force them to pay more in taxes? How will you feel if there was a centralized law banning any public form of healthcare? It goes both ways.
