Jesus Fingers, I have addressed the issue. They are removing deductions to simplify the tax code. Most deductions are towards the rich, but some are for the middle class. It is something like 30% of the middle class, or those earning $50,000 to $150,000, could see an increase due to the deductions being gone. But again, how many actually used those deductions? That is one issue. So as a whole they will be seeing a tax decrease. This talk of how taxes are going to increase on the middle and lower class is simply not true. "Do you even possess the ability to speak about substantive issues without deflecting?" I wasn't deflecting, I was expanding on the situation. Our tax code is over 70,000 pages long. Who can read that? Who can understand that? Honest question, do you know of all the deductions the middle class has right now? And how many people do you think do know?

These deductions need to go. You give deductions to one group you have to give it to all. This is where the tax loopholes come from. If you are going to give deductions to the lower class than corrupt politicians will give deductions to the rich. You have to get rid of that power. This tax plan actually hurts me as I am one of the few in the lower class than understands the tax law and the deductions I can get. But I support this tax plan.

It simplifies the code which is what we need. This man is ranting about deductions for the workers such as teachers, now how many teachers actually use that deduction? I am a grad student and I know all the deductions I can use. I have my deductions down where many of my colleagues, who are also doctoral candidates, don't know about deductions. For example, even buying a gym pass you can justify as an education expense. The reality is that our complicated tax code gives many breaks to the rich. Trump mentioned this and called out Clinton about it. Democrats will mask it by saying they give deductions to teachers and workers. Meanwhile they give deductions to the rich so they pay less than their secretaries. This needs to stop. Remove the deductions and just tax the income. Simplify the code.

ShinigamiblackFYS23, grants and our tuition waiver is income, it needs to be taxed, period. We need to get rid of these loopholes. This is something I agree with. While you may support not having tuition waivers taxes the reality is that leads to deductions and loopholes for the rich. This is something politicians, especially democrats have been doing for years. They will make a claim they are supporting the middle and lower class with these deductions but give more to the rich. And while the government needs to be transparent the federal tax code is over 70,000 pages long. Have you read it? Here you want a deduction for your girlfriend but then complain when they give many to the rich. The tax code has to be simplified, period. If not you will get the situation where the rich can write off way more along with corporations.

Cross Counter, the rich have been paying most of the taxes. That is a fact. Yes, I don't have children because I decided not to have any. I was responsible. I am healthy because I live a healthy life. Even at that I have insurance. So does another one of my colleagues who earns less than me and has diabetes. He is fine. And no, I am not the exception to the rule.

He is talking about deductions for teachers, how many teachers actually knew they had that? I recently received an email that my tuition waiver was going to be taxed and many of my fellow grad students are not happy. I asked them if they would have known that if no one told them, they said no. These are doctoral candidates not understanding our tax code. The complex tax code favors the rich, and democrats like that one masks it as "well we give deductions to teachers and workers". But again, how many actually use them?

I have worked with many college students who did not know they can write off text books. "What is your ideal for a "simplified" tax code? Jeremy, you are one person. I know I can deduct a lot that I have. I bought a gym pass and I can deduct it three times. I buy a new polo shirt and can deduct it as I used it at a conference I attend for a school event. But how many know that? Not many. The federal tax code is over 70,000 pages long. Have you read the entire thing?

Also, the consumption tax favors the poor as the rich will buy a more expensive item, especially cars or more expensive pairs of pants. Look at the close of someone who is rich, they are always nice, dry cleaned and fits great. Now compared that to a college student.

You keep pointing to KS when others can point to TX. Or others can point to Connecticut for an example where high taxes don't work. Also, KS is not doing that bad compared to the average, especially for having limited resources.
