Bernie Sanders lost. Bernie is also not a fan of this tax bill because it is a cut where Bernie wants to raise taxes on everyone. Bernie had the opportunity to make the tax cuts "permanent" on the middle class but he refused to reconcile with the republicans. Cruz brought this up in the debate and Bernie did not deny it.
1
Igor, you need 60 votes for individual tax cuts to be permanent. Corporations are not individuals.
1
Nothing is permanent in politics. All that means is that there is no expiration date. Democrats can take over and change the law if they want. With the middle class cuts there is an expiration date of 10 years. You cannot make cuts on individuals permanent without 60 votes in the senate so the republicans had to add an expiration date. Even at that in 10 years you will have a new president and a new congress and pressure will be on them to take action.

Bam Wetsy, most work insurance covers family. I was no my dad's insurance until I was 25. And before you bring up Obamacare that was before Obama was even elected.
1
Riniculous, Ted Cruz brought up why the tax cuts are not permanent in the debate against Bernie and said it was the democrat's fault. Bernie did not deny it. "not gutting the individual mandate of Obamacare" Obamacare made healthcare worse.
1
Someone NotKnown, do the exact opposite of what Bernie wants to do.

There are plenty of high paying jobs. People just refuse to develop skills.

Mike, saying a bill will "increase the deficit" is vague as there are legit arguments this new tax law will reduce the deficit. It depends on economic growth. In the end Bernie and the democrats had the chance to make the tax cuts permanent and refused. Single payer healthcare will make the situation worse. It will destroy our healthcare industry and our economy. This is not up for debate but a fact. This is why every attempt to pass it at the state level has failed, including Vermont.

Mike Jones, Obamacare was a watered down version of single payer.

Protemp, is that supposed to be an rebuttal?

" You are so full of shit lol, in the 1980s when Reagan cut taxes the deficit skyrocketed" We also had a democratic congress in the 80s and the economy boomed. "(probably because he also increased military spending) " Yes he did increase defense spending to counter the trend of defense cutting. Defense spending went from 10% of GDP to 4% prior to Reagan. He increased it to 5% of GDP. Even at that defense spending was still around 1/4 of the federal budget. "also when you cut the amount of money the Federal Government takes in, it has LESS money to lower the deficit" There are two ways you can decrease revenue, lower taxes and lower economic growth. Neither really does it all the time though. What I mean is that increasing taxes does not mean higher revenue if economic growth is low. Just like lower taxes does not mean less revenue if economic growth is high. "Obamacare is based on shitty price gouging for profit private health insurance companies so it’s NOT Single Payer, " It is. You force people to buy the product. Single payer taxes everyone at a higher rate. In both cases you are forcing people to pay for healthcare. "also Single Payer won’t destroy our economy because the Federal Government net saves $17 trillion " Healthcare is 1/6 of the economy. Radically changing it like that will lead to a major recession. Eve if it does save money in the long run the immediate effect will be huge leading to massive job loss and a major recession. People will be worse off for months and maybe even years. Is that what you want? You cannot deny that fact I just wrote. If you do than you are not fit for this conversation. That is why healthcare reform is so complex.
1
Obamacare forced people to pay for insurance where single payer has higher taxes. In the end both systems are forcing people to buy healthcare in one way or another. " Seems like under most single-[ayer systems the government insurance covers the vast majority of medical services/procedures, " With longer waiting times and less efficiencies. "and there's plenty of documentaries out there laying out the many many huge problems and conflicts of interest they have that hinder providing good and in-expensive healthcare." And there are many documents out there showing the problems with single payer healthcare.

"Tax cuts for the corporations and wealthy have a point of diminishing returns, and they have long since passed the point of negative returns. " We have the highest corporate tax rate in the world and the top 10% earn 40% of the income but pay 70% of the federal income taxes. I would not consider that to be diminishing. "At this point the problem is the poor and middle-classes not having enough money to buy products" Nope. The problem is lack of production. Having money and nothing to buy does not solve the problem. We need production meaning people have to work. " making it pointless for businesses here to produce more of the products those people desire" If businesses produced too much they will lower prices. The problem is that production is not where it should be an also businesses have to pay high taxes and regulations meaning they have to pass the price on to the customers.

leavy, nothing wrong with outsourcing. We are a developed nation and underdeveloped nations are taking on those low skilled jobs. We need to push people to take on higher skill jobs to the point we get more doctors and researchers. That will make it so we can give healthcare to more people.
1
"did you really say outsourcing is good?" In some ways it is. It pushes future generations to take on higher skilled jobs. Just like the tractor pushed people to work at factories and take on those high skilled jobs, we should push people to take on higher skilled jobs such as being researchers in science or doctors. The problem with outsourcing is when it gets sped up with higher regulations and higher taxes. It is going to happen. We just have to slow it down with lower taxes and lower regulations.
1
Farty McGee, those job cuts by AT&T were planned years in advanced. It was to avoid paying pensions after a certain amount of time. You can thank unions for establishing that. Those workers will find jobs elsewhere easily. This is really common in high skill jobs like that.

Bernie is easy to beat on a policy discussion. The problem is that Bernie does not want to have that discussion. He just wants to scream about the rich. At this point all you can do is point an laugh at him.
1
DrgnsFlys, is that supposed to be a rebuttal?
1
He hasn't. He doesn't actually read bills, he just goes off of what Bernie Sanders says.
