  2. Aaron, it isn't about agreeing to disagree. It is the fact that economics is complex and there are legit arguments by experts on both sides. To make the vague statement like you do is dismissing the numerous amount of evidence to suggest that wages have not been stagnant. That is being very myopic and ignorant.

  7. Aaron, it is arguably a myth. If you use PCE method of inflation or GDP deflator it shows that wages have outpaced inflation. Also, there are many shortcomings in inflation such as not taking into account improvements in technology. For example, cars are more expensive today in ticket price, but they last longer, get better gas mileage and are safer, all things that save money in the long run. It ins't a bait, it is something that can be discussed.

  9. Aaron, there are stats that point in either direction. If you look at PCE inflation wages has outpaced inflation by around 2%. If you look at GDP deflator inflation wages have outpaced inflation by around 10%. Also, you bring up purchasing power. There are many flaws in that along with inflation. They do not account for situations where something actually cost less in time and/or money. For example, cars today last longer, get better mileage and are safer, all that save money in the long run. With the internet people are more informed about goods and services where they get better deals and better goods/services. A company like Amazon made shopping easier so instead of driving around looking for something that might exist, you just buy it online. That saves time and gas which saves money. There are several variables that support wages have not been stagnate.

  11. Aaron, data from Richard Burkhauser, the Minneapolis Fed and Don Boudreaux provide arguments against wage stagnation. There is more out there but that is some just off of the top of my head I can think of.

  12. I agree that the US healthcare system can be improved, but that does not mean switching to a single payer system. Also, every healthcare system has shortcomings. As for socialism gaining popularity, that is not true. Close to 80% of voters voted against universal healthcare in Colorado. The socialist making headlines are people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who is an economic illiterate and is becoming a joke.

  16. Ric, I have seen Kyle's videos. He leaves out a ton. So much so I would love to debate him on healthcare as I know I would make him look like a fool. Single payer would not cost less. It is an economic fallacy to say it would. As for defense spending, it is around 4% of GDP where the trend is that it has been dropping for decades. In the 60s it was around 10% of GDP, not it is around 4%. As for us spending more than the next 8 countries combine, our GDP is larger than those nations. We spend more on education than most of those countries combine. Do you want to cut education spending? 32% won primaries. That is nothing. A lot won in districts they have little to no chance of winning. Your star candidate is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who sounds like an idiot when she speaks.

  17. Untrustedlife, they don't spend less than 1% of GDP on defense spending. Also, NATO does not allow us to drop below a certain number. Unlike other nations we follow NATO. And people wonder why we pulled out of Paris Agreement. Maybe that other countries don't have a strong record in following deals they agree to.

  19. dane matthews, you can't look at the min. wage. Doing so is saying that every job in the market has increased in value. That is not true. Many jobs have decreased in value down to zero. The min. wage is simply an arbitrary government mandate to pay a certain wage per hour but does not dictate the true value in the market.

  22. Ceros Asman, she doesn't know how unemployment is calculated. When pushed on her ideas she gives no numbers on how to actually pay for the programs she wants besides "raise taxes". In fact, watch the video entitled "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Economic Genius" Great video breaking down her economic fallacies. You can also look at politifact about her comment on the Koch brothers study on Medicare for all.

  23. Ceros, defense spending is around $700 billion a year. Healthcare costs over $3 trillion. Simple math shows that by cutting defense spending won't come close to paying for those programs. Northern Europe taxes citizens and has lower corporate taxes. AOC wants to tax the rich, the complete opposite of what Europe does. Saying we spend more than other nations combine on defense is flawed. We also spend more on education than many of those same nations combine. Do you want to cut education? There are many arguments against gun control. But show me where in anything AOC said that breaks down who she will pay for her programs.

  26. Kurt, I have listened to AOC in length as well, unedited. She has not explained anything. No details and most of her numbers are simply false. She has no policy positions besides raise taxes and give things away. Denmark has lower corporate taxes, no min. wage and less business regulations. Justice Democrats want to raise the min. wage, raise corporate taxes and increase regulations. They want to do the exact opposite of what Denmark does. Denmark taxes citizens a lot, not businesses and they don't tax the rich at a high amount.
