I mean, we can fact check all the things AOC has gotten wrong but posted on social media about issues like healthcare, economics and climate change.

Both sides were bad. AOC wants to censor people. If someone posts up misinformation it is on their competitor to post information to counter that. This shows that AOC is losing the battle of ideas so she has to censor. Mark should say that. However, AOC was bad in that she is talking about "fact checking" when that is vague. You can give two experts the same set of facts and you can get two completely different answers that are legit. Saying "fact checking" is a huge cop out.

Eh, both were bad. AOC talking about "fact checking" which is deceptive. You can give two experts the same set of facts and they can come up with different conclusions. Also, Mark needs to be firm. Sure, let people post ads that lies, and let others post ads that counter that argument. This is how the exchange of ideas take place. The reality is AOC is losing the battle of ideas and thus needs to censor.

I can easily "fact check" her on the issue of climate change and show how wrong she is. So based on her standard should we take things down she posted on social media?

@GeorgePiazza , it will be easy. To start, you can't prove anything in science. With climate change it is happening, it has been for over 4 billion years. The issues are how much man plays a role, is it a threat, and if it is what should we do. But AOC has pushed the whole 12 year bit where what she is saying is false. I recommend you read the paper entiled "Why setting a climate deadline is dangerous" In Nature Climate Change, one of the top peer reviewed journals. Now this is the time you call me stupid or disappear. But I told you it will be easy.

That is what is so great about science that there is doubt that allows us to do more research and change when more supporting evidence is discovered. Next, when did I ever deny climate change? My overall point is that the issue of climate change is far more complex then what AOC presents. Her definitive answer on it is actually anti-science and that is one of many articles I can give to counter AOC. She is giving a hard deadline and that article describes the danger in that mainly because of how unsure we are about climate change. To extend, at what rate should the earth warm up? And why? You can't answer that. No one can. That is why I said that we don't even know if current climate change is a threat. I recommend you read the book "Why We Disagree About Climate Change" by prof. Mike Hulme. He has a PhD in applied climatology and worked for the IPCC. As for the 12 year bit and you claiming some scientist are saying we have less, care to give me a link to the papers where that is written? Not some quote, but a peer reviewed paper like I gave. Overall, point being is that AOC is being very deceptive in what she is saying about climate change and is, in my opinion, spreading a lot of misinformation.

@francd2981 , here is the issue. Is the current change a threat? We don't know. We have no control to compare to. The climate has been changing for over 4 billion years, and yes, man has played a role. But is it a threat? No actual scientist will say it is. That is why you have to get a teenage girl from Sweden to speak about it as opposed to actual scientists. AOC is not a scientist, nor has she actually cited actual scientists on this issue. She is pushing for radical changes on a complex issues. Yes, climate change is something we should look into. But we shouldn't make radical changes when a large doubt exist. I hate it when non scientists talk about issues related to science.

@francd2981 , I don't ignore the scientists. The reality is that the science is far from settled as we don't even know if current climate change is a threat and how much man plays a role. This issue is very complex. Notice how the far left are not even citing scientists on this issue? That is because it isn't about the science, it is about control of society.

Also, I will point to you the article published by popular technology entitled "1350+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skeptic Arguments Against ACC/AGW Alarmism " They list the studies. You can point to me the NASA source, which I read, and I can point to you this source which counters all of that. You can read those studies as well as they list them all. I have been through this discussion many times with many people. The reality is that the far left does not have science on their side. They only have fear mongering. That is why AOC compares this to war. You have to find a new argument if you want to convince a moderate, who is also a scientists, like me.

Prophet , Stephen Michael Davis has a video entitled "The YouTube Cargo Cult". At one point in the video he discusses how there are videos on YouTube of experts going into details on complex and important issues. There are also cat videos and top ten videos. Which is more popular? The views speak for themselves. Fact is people want short, talking point videos and click bait titles. Is that what is best for this nation? Well, many, including myself, support freedom. With freedom comes issues like that. We can try to crack down on the issue of false videos but who will be that arbiter? It is similar to free speech. I hate the KKK. I feel they are a racist hate group. But if they were to hold a rally I will defend their freedom of speech to do so. I will disagree with their message but understand that them spouting out their message is a drawback for freedom of speech. And denying freedom of speech is a much worse situation.

The problem with "fact checking" is that you can give facts to two experts and you can end up with two completely, but legit, answers. Saying "fact checking" is a cop out in saying "censor them because I disagree with the message". AOC has said many things wrong about issues like the economy and climate change and I do not support anyone censoring her.
