@jackarmstrong5645 what makes Fauci a "leading expert"? There are many experts who have varying opinions. Plus, he has been wrong in all his predictions. But the biggest issue is his constant fear mongering and zero positive news. First it was deaths, pictures of mass graves and rows of temporary morgues and Fauci saying we will reach over 2 million. When deaths and cases started to drop then Fauci said not to open up too soon. We did and were fine for a while. Then cases starting going up but deaths were still low. So the talking point went to cases, not deaths. Fauci saying we will reach 100,000 a day, we never did. Then deaths started to uptick a little bit so it went back to deaths even though deaths are around 1000 a day and not 2500 like they were in April. And when things starting to improve now and cases dropping Fauci is saying this virus is not going anywhere and we need wear goggles. Constant fear mongering. No news of immunity being developed, of deaths rates dropping, recovery rate increasing and so on. When all you do is fear monger you either freak fools out or turn people away. If he gives positive news he will be at least giving a light at the end of the tunnel. He doesn't because he is a hack.

And yes, it is just a virus. 40% who died were in nursing homes, and the average age of death is 80 years old, people who were near death to begin with. But hey, I guess we have to let those people live a few more months while ruining our economy, increasing use of antidepressants to where we have a shortage, and increase the use of substance abuse. Yep, that is all worth it.

Bud Grimfield you clearly did not read what I wrote. Again, the vast majority who died were old and high risk to die to begin with. 40% who died were in nursing. According to UCSF 50% of new nursing home patients die in 5 months. So put it like this, during this time of those 40% who died with the virus while in the nursing home, half of them would be dead anyway. So again, antidepressant use is up where we have a shortage. Substance abuse is up. Unemployment is up. Evictions are going to happen. Millions are suffering and for what? So grandma can live 3 more months? Here appears to be a novel concept for you, people die. Sick and elderly are at a higher risk of death. We allow people to die every day, 7500 a day on average so millions can live life. Why do you support people losing their homes, their jobs, become so depressed they have to use medication?

Bud Grimfield people die for many reasons. I attended a funeral of a 5 year old girl who died in a car accident. By your logic I should push to ban driving. How about you have a discussion with people who can't get their medication for anxiety because there is now a shortage due to high demand? How about you talk to the families of those who had loved ones who committed suicide due to the current state of affairs of the economy? Also, consider of those 163000 you point out that are dead, consider how almost all of them were either old or sick to begin with and were high risk of death. I will have no problem talking to them.

@jackarmstrong5645 millions have lingering health issues for many reasons. Now how many businesses are not going to be able to reopen? How many will now have a drug or alcohol addiction? How many many are never coming back because they committed suicide? "If a person lives to 80 they are likely to live to 90. " That if factually not true. Do you even know what the overall life expectancy is? The average age of a new nursing home patient is 83 according to UCSF. Their average lifespan in a nursing home is 14 months. So right away I debunked your point.

We are destroying our economy and letting millions suffer for a virus that is really not that deadly. Also, with no economy there will be no taxpayers.

Look at the George Floyd case, when more body cam footage came out it was clearly not an act of racism. Other nations have various forms of universal healthcare, including the US. Our form is that you cannot be denied care at the ER. On reason why we pay so much is that we provide so much care in the US where other nations cap it. That is something "progressives" tend to ignore. On troops, I support pulling some out. However, defense spending has been dropping in the US for decades. As for police, they are often not violent. Millions of interactions are involved between police and citizens every year. Very few turn out violent. But on racism. Read my first part. When the left immediately runs to racism for an excuse and before the facts come out, that makes them racist. The riots are not going to solve anything. It just causes more harm. Many businesses are destroyed now. You are receive lifelong damage for many things. From what I have seen basically anyone who do receive lifelong damage represents a rare and extreme case, and had underlying conditions to begin with. So no, 5 million are not going to suffer. As for the dead, almost all were old or sick to begin with and thus were at high risk of death. 40% were in nursing homes where, according to the UCSF, 50% of new nursing home patients die in 5 months. So we are basically destroying our society and the economy so grandma can possibly live a few more months. This is another issue I have with the left, how little they understand science. Not just with the virus but on issues like climate change as well and it leads to a lot of misinformation.

When I talk about the virus I go into details and give many angles. Other either say "X amount dead" or "long term problems" The latter which is extremely rare and involves people with other underlying conditions. But whatever, stick to your talking points I guess.

@jeannieh3661 I like my grandparents, but I am a realist. I had a grandparent died. She was 83. The funeral was a celebration of her life. You, like everyone else, is ignore the bigger issues we are causing. Suicides are up. Antidepressant use is up. Substance abuse is up. People are losing their businesses and their homes. So why do you ignore all of that? I doubt I will get an answer.

Others have lingering health problems because of traffic accidents. We can prevent basically all of that by capping the speed limit to be 15 MPH. So why don't we do that?

@jackarmstrong5645 While I agree calling it a hoax was wrong, we were not listening to all experts, only one in Fauci. That was part of the issue that we only listened to that fear mongering hack. Also, you can only give away so much money before the dollar collapse.

When they marched for Alton Sterling after he was shot by the cops I could not take them seriously. Now look at how they are acting in the George Floyd incident? But when David Dorn was killed I did not see anyone BLM groups march for him. With Floyd, have you seen the whole video? There were three other people in the car, all black. All were arrested and not harmed. Floyd did not want to get out of the car. He finally did. They struggled to handcuff him. He did not want to get in the back of the patrol saying he could the breath. The cops said they would roll down the window. He eventually said he wanted to lay on the ground. While I do not agree with the knee on the neck, what happened was not an act of racism. That is my point. Poor policing or even poor police training, one can argue that. But clearly not racism at that point. Also, BLM rioted when Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed when that was also not an act of racism. Our overall GDP is larger than many nations combine. We spend more on education than many nations combined. Should we cut education? And again, defense spending has been dropping for decades. Look up military expenditure as a percent of GDP. In the 60s it was around 9%. Not it is less than 4%. As for police, it comes down to this. On average 7500 die a day in the US, a lot of cases are preventable. We never talk about that. We do when there is a mass shooting or a cop killing someone. Why? Because they are rare and isolated events and should be treated as such.
