  2. Back in the days, the central processors were relatively easy to r&d and manufacture, so the market was NOT an oligopoly of just Intel and AMD. In addition to the mentioned Zilog, Motorola and NEC there were also IBM, DEC, HP, MIPS, SGI, Sun, Hitachi and many more. I especially note Cyrix's x86 compatible processors that were not half as fast at the same frequency, but also required less power and emitted less heat, so they could afford working without a cooling fan when all the other x86s were already in need of it.

Powered by the liberal reforms of the 90s and rapidly growing oil prices, economy was booming and people were getting wealthier by every year. Too bad most of them were not smart enough to not link all this thriving to the person of the new leader.

  8. Well, what exactly did iPhone do to the RF market? There were lots of other wireless devices, including phones. I used Ericsson phone to connect to the Internet, both for its own J2ME apps like ICQ and for my laptop, since like 2004. Tons of Nokia, Motorola and other phones using Symbian, Windows CE/Mobile and other OS's were able to surf the Internet long before the iPhone was released. And when it did, it was soon totally outnumbered by Android-powered phones. And every new mobile Internet standard was more or less supported by all of them, meaning that iPhones were never the major consumers of RF devices. Can you please make your statement about "iPhone forever changed" a little clearer?

  11. Instead of puzzling over how to make brine disappear, why not using them as a decorative substitute of water in urban planning? Even in the most tropical conditions brine would keep nearly sterile like the Dead Sea, nothing that can grow in brine can possibly harm humans. It is also almost impossible to drown in brine, making it much safer for use in public places. Electricians could use the artificial .. uhm... brine bodies for grounding, where the soil itself has poor conductivity. The obvious downside is that brine is a lot more corrosive and would spread salt dust all over the area, but it also may be used to make urban areas unpleasant for dangerous insects.

  12. I actually don't see much of a problem in high water usage. At almost any location, there are plenty of sources, providing the not-suitable-for-drinking water. But this water still can evaporate thus be used in cooling systems. Including the water from the wastewater treatment.

  19. many arid regions are also oil/gas rich how about... burning hydrocarbons for water? if you make the fuel-air mixture rich enough and use some catalysts, carbon may just not burn, instead condensing as soot or even more profitable byproducts like graphene or nanotubes that can make the whole idea even less insane

For example, you can easily omit the fact, that Soviet Union consisted of many republics, like Ukraine, Georgia etc., and then blame all the Soviet atrocities solely on Russians! Even those ones, that were managed by Georgian gensek (leader), Ukrainian narkom(~minister), and executors of all nations (mostly the local ones), like the aforementioned "holodomor".
