  1. Why hadn't he used the numerous mechanisms of this kind already known to humanity? Russian mathematician Chebyshev made his "Stopohod" back in 1878. Probably some other scientists made lots of similar stuff in the old times. Moreover, they were making it not by blunt computational force, but using their knowledge of geometry and physics. So why reinventing the wheel now? especially in such a modern barbaric way like dumping the workload on a computer. Was this just because of a leg-like aesthetics of this mechanism, that was clearly drawn first and calculated later?
