  1. First, remember why it was invented in the first place. The reason is simple - MS simply cannot into good filesystems. While Linux /etc directories could easily hold dozens of thousands of configuration files, FAT and even NTFS struggle with mere thousand files in a directory. NTFS even uses a dirty hack of putting all the files less than 4 kB in ONE system file, making all of them extremely vulnerable to any hardware problems with storage.
