It's very strange to get a vitamin A (retinol) deficiency by eating junk food, because most of it contains carotenes as food dyes, and consuming carotenes is nearly the same as consuming retinol itself because the latter can be synthesized from the former. Unless there is some other deficiency affecting this biosynthesis (lack of iron, required for the carotene dioxygenase enzyme, maybe?)
