  1. The bottom line is, St. Louis is not Hong Kong or Tokyo. A Japanese architect can't possibly have had knowledge of American urban fabric where cities were sprawling over the countryside. Mid Century architecture at its best is individual and suburban. The project was doomed to failure because the country was not ready for integration and is still unable to facilitate that dream. As fast as whites moved in, they moved out, and blacks were left isolated at a time of social unrest and poverty. The whole project was a vast mistake because America will never truly accept equality between races.
