  2. I grew up in a big Edwardian house. For years, no one thought about the door knobs or the old fashioned push-button light switches and their plates. One day when I was in high school, I looked at the front door latch and had a thought. I got some saddle soap and a cloth and rubbed it, and out came this gorgeous shiny brass! I spent many hours going over the whole house wiping off the grime of 100 years from these fixtures, and they all turned out to be made of solid shining brass! My mother was dumbfounded and my dad gave me an extra allowance. If you live in an old house, check out your door fixtures and you may be very surprised! 😁
