  1. It's tragic how these incredible mansions were torn down only to be replaced with dull soulless apartment towers that have no class and no architectural importance. They're built to be torn down and replaced by another greedy investor, while the solid granite and marble palaces of the Victorian and Gilded age were built to last forever. But it's New York, and nothing is permanent there.
