  1. Have you bothered to look at your Tax Code for 2024-2025? Take a look, and you will see that your Tax Free Allowance is 12,570 pounds and your State Pension is 12,487 pounds. That means that if you have ANY OTHER INCOME exceeding 83 pounds a year, you will be due to pay 20% tax on it. Now say "thank you" to that nice Mr. Hunt.

Under the terms of the Act of Settlement (1701) all descendants of the Electress Sophia of Hannover are British. The Duke of Edinburgh was the great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria, who was the last of the Hannoverian dynasty, and so he was British.

Money remains valuable, it is simply no longer AS valuable as it used to be. 200 years ago Mr. Darcy's 10000 a year was a fortune equivalent to something in the region of today's twelve million (tax free). Today, however, while that sum is less than the maximum State Pension it is still far more than most people have in their savings.

  13.  @colincox1716  Compared with a lot of places, Hounslow High street is still thriving. Most of the High Street in both Stoke-on-Trent and Grimsby is boarded up. In Hounslow multiculturalism means that there are a range of different cafes and coffee shops, and there are some unique outlets, like Ali's Mobiles and Moda Italiana Fashions alongside the usual T.K. Maxx, Primark and high street banks. Hounslow is probably UKIP's vision of hell, but it could be a lot worse.

The result of this is that applications for post-graduate courses have fallen by 30%. The next challenge for the government is now to find the money that those students would have paid into funding the universities, as THREE overseas students' fees effectively pay the salary of a member of the teaching staff.

Fun facts; if Suella Braverman walked down the street in Tehran, wearing the clothes in which she appeared at the Conservative Party Conference she would, at best, be arrested and charged with prostitution. At worst she might be beaten into a coma and die a month later. In Afghanistan, she would be stoned in the street and have her throat cut. The woman's malice no no bounds.

So much for bursting. Furthermore, the net increase of births over deaths last year was a staggering 26,000. Not one of those 26,000 babies will be in the workforce for another 16 years, so thank God there are immigrants and refugees. These are the workforce (in the case of immigrants) and the potential workforce (if the Home Office ever reduces the backlog of asylum applications().

Ironically, however, much derided Hounslow is one of only three London boroughs where prices are rising (the others are the City of London, and Tower Hamlets). So Hounslow cannot be that much of "a shithole now". Here's another fun fact. In 2022-2023 the natural increase in Britain's population (births over deaths) was 26,000. In Scotland, deaths exceeded births. Not one of those neo-nates will start work for another 16 years, and in the mean time, every person in the demographic bulge known as the "baby-boom" is past retirement age. Thanks to the NHS, they are living longer, but without the scorned immigrants entering the workforce, who is going to pay for the baby boomers' triple-locked pensions and their geriatric nursing?

  48.  @davidbond5448  In the case of Mary Whitehouse, it was usualyl something along the lines of "there is FAR too much sex and violence on TV', which left anybody who disagreed in the rather off position of looking as if they thought there wasn't enough sex and violence. In the case of Suella Braverman, she has somehow come to the conclusion that homelessness is a lifestyle choice, and that a march calling for a cease-fire is somehow an indication of deep seated hatred. It is, of course, far easier for her to chase headlines, than it is to actually do her job.

If social housing is a problem, it is because in the last 13 years, the Conservative government has done nothing to encourage local councils to provide social housing, and only yesterday Michael Gove relaxed the targets that councils were asked to set. NHS appointments may be a luxury, but when you do see NHS doctors they may well be immigrants. Finally, what is your problem with multilingual schools? At least one Conservative MP was sent, as a child, to a French playgroup - this was supposedly a sign of her great intelligence. In the same period, Le Petit Ashraf, who served as a translator for his grandmother when on public transport, was deemed to have "Language Difficulties".
