  2. The Independent reported that there were hundreds of well-wishers and about 20 protesters. Given that the sad souls in Republic had actually advertised their protest in advance, they must be disappointed that they were outnumbered by the photographers.

  5.  @edmundprice5276  The chair is made of oak, and has already lasted for over 750 years. It underwent a two year conservation process from 2011 to 2013 and is now on display in, I believe, St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey. Obviously the relevant authorities must have taken temperature and humidity into consideration before deciding to put it on display.

  6.  @stormbreaker06  So do you want a unicameral or bicameral republic, and what powers would the respective chambers enjoy? Or are you happy to have a republic like the USA where one chamber can lock down government. Would the Head of State be elected by popular vote, or by the legislature? Would the head of state enjoy merely ceremonial powers (Israel; Switzerland; India) or executive powers (USA; Brazil; France) and for how long? Remember, since the French Revolution, France has enjoyed (?) a directory, a consulate, an Empire, a restored monarchy, a bourgeois monarchy, the Second Republic, the Third Empire, the Third Republic, L'Etat Francais, the Fourth Republic, and currently has its Fifth Republic headed by a president who was widely regarded as the lesser of two evils at the last election. There is nothing obvious about it.

  13. There is a thing called the Freedom Index which ranks countries in terms of their citizens' personal freedom and economic freedom. On that index, the USA ranks as number 15. Of the 14 countries that rank higher than the USA, NINE are constitutional monarchies and four of those monarchies share the same sovereign - King Charles III. Go figure.

Scotland opposed Brexit and where Reform are seen as a southern English party. In Northern Ireland, teaming up with the True Ulster Voice was akin to taking cyanide. The people who marched peacefully are requesting an immediate ceasefire in an ongoing war; a war that has killed more Palestinians (get the spelling right) in a month than the Russians have killed in Ukraine. The thugs who fought the police in Parliament Square and in Chinatown are not, mercifully, typical of the British people.

I had assumed that the Labour candidate's long absence from the constituency implied that there would be massive tactical voting, but in the event he polled just under 7500 votes and got a 16% share of the vote. A second factor here was that the Conservative candidate's vote dropped to 12,800 and gave him just 28% of the poll. He had been a pretty decent constituency MP and he was defending a large majority, and on any other night he would have been expected to do well. Like even the EXit Poll on July 4th, I underestimated the strength of feeling against the Conservative Party as a whole.

Both he and his wife had attempted to lead "normal" lives, with "normal" jobs, but they were hounded by press intrusion, and gave up. Thast is why they have been so protective of their children's privacy. Get your facts straight, troll.

Secondly, Prince Edward completed a third of the 12 month Royal Marine Course, and later, after a stint working with Andrew Lloyd-Webber, he founded Ardent Productions, which produced TV documentaries. These were not well received in the UK, but found ready audiences in the USA. The king was a serving naval officer, the Duke of York flew helicopters during the Falkland Conflict and the Princess Royal is a worlds class sportsperson. What, may one ask, are your achievements?

The rest of your rant is basically scatological garbage, but it is worth pointing out one thing. The Duke of York is accused of having carnal knowledge of a 17 year old girl in Florida, when he was 4O. Given the age of the girl, that is a criminal offence under Florida law, but in the neighbouring states of Georgia and Alabama there would be no case to answer. The Duke denies the accusation, but he has been tried by the tabloid press and found guilty in the court of public opinion. If the allegation is true, then there was a 23 year age gap, and the worst that can be said is that this is perhaps sleazy behaviour, but it is hardly a major offence, given that the age gap between the 45th President of the United States and his current (third) wife is 24 years. That, incidentally is the same wife who was recovering in hospital after the birth of their son, when her husband was enjoying a one-night-stand with an "adult film" actress called Stormy Daniels. So save your indignation for that scenario.
