Effectively, it IS kept in a museum. The last time it was used was in 1953.

@edmundprice5276 The chair is made of oak, and has already lasted for over 750 years. It underwent a two year conservation process from 2011 to 2013 and is now on display in, I believe, St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey. Obviously the relevant authorities must have taken temperature and humidity into consideration before deciding to put it on display.

@edmundprice5276 Oak does not deteriorate that much. The Victory, which predates bioth the kings I mentioned, is still intact at Portsmouth Harbour.
