No, never that.

He may be confident, but several polls are saying that he will lose. Given that this is his EIGHTH attempt to win a seat, the polls may be onto something.

@nowgrownup Face facts, Reform have not played a good game. They wasted time and resources fighting every seat in Scotland, where they are loathed. Scotland opposed Brexit and where Reform are seen as a southern English party. In Northern Ireland, teaming up with the True Ulster Voice was akin to taking cyanide. That's before the scandals of the last week.

@ira4600 I suppose if Boris Johnson's ghastly father was considered suitable for a knighthood, it might be possible, but definitely not under the coming government.

@steptay Yes, didn't it. I had assumed that the Labour candidate's long absence from the constituency implied that there would be massive tactical voting, but in the event he polled just under 7500 votes and got a 16% share of the vote. A second factor here was that the Conservative candidate's vote dropped to 12,800 and gave him just 28% of the poll. He had been a pretty decent constituency MP and he was defending a large majority, and on any other night he would have been expected to do well. Like even the EXit Poll on July 4th, I underestimated the strength of feeling against the Conservative Party as a whole.
