So the British expatriates who moved to Spain should embrace Catholicism/anti-clericalism, and change their diets? Is that what you are suggesting?
2
@mikecartlidge5355 In other words, live separately and take no part in civic life? Establish your own ghetto?
2
@mikecartlidge5355 How is the celebration of traditions by one group attempting to change the traditions of another? Why are the Ramadhan illuminations being regarded as somehow offensive, when celebration of the Chinese New Year is not?
2
@mikecartlidge5355 You are the one who does not seem to get it. MakeBritainGreatAgain007 has made the assumption that "our religious holidays are offensive and theirs is (sic) perfectly fine." By that, I assume he/she/it is attempting to suggest that Muslims find "our" i.e. Christian holidays are offensive. It is a bit of a stretch to make that assumption based on the evidence of decorations celebrating Ramadhan. Britain is now a multicultural society, and London, in particular, has become a more cosmopolitan multi-ethnic, multi-faith, multicultural city than it ever used to be. Some people have trouble accepting that. Others are prepared to go as far as suggesting that the change is inherently bad, because "they" are replacing "us". This attitude is part the politics of division, and should be resisted.

There are Christmas tress in Bahrain, Dubai and Oman. I have seen them in Mumbai (India - Hindu) and in Colombo (Sri-Lanka - Buddhist). They are very popular in Thailand, Singapore and Japan. So why is it "completely and utterly outrageous" to celebrate Radahan in London? How does that adversely affect you?

Good for Sadiq Khan. Well done. Ramadhan Kareem.
1
@stephfoxwell4620 They are probably redundant because their congregations have dwindled to almost nothing. The congregations would, of course, have been Christian. So it is those Christians who are to blame for the repurposed churches. What would you have them do, stand empty and fall into dangerous disrepair?

Good. With an attitude like that please stay away.

It IS disrespectful. It is simply bad manners to eat in front of someone who you know is fasting.
1
@lohengrin4009 Fasting is NOT "a devout practice of the Muslim religion" - it is one of the five pillars of Islam; and is thus mandated. For that reason alone, it is exceptionally impolite for someone who is not a Muslim to eat in front of a Muslim who is fasting.
1
@damian-795 In which year did this happen.? It is perfectly possible for Ramadhan to occur in January, but otherwise, what is your point?
1
@lohengrin4009 So your experience is relevant, how?
1
@KingKong-jy4ut You are named after a large and rather sympathetic gorilla, but you appear to have the manners of a badly brought up monkey. With luck, your sandwich will choke you.
1
@janeholmes9374 Define "our culture". Do you mean "my prejudices"?
1
@paulsawtell3991 Boris Johnson, when he was Mayor of London, sacked Sir Ian Blair, who was the head of the MET at that time. The MET has been a stinking sink for years.
1
@Astucious The cultures of England, Scotland and Wales are all very different, you sociological illiterate.
1
@edward_kenway86 In many Muslim countries it is.
1
Are you talking about "your country's leaders" or "your countries' leaders"? If it is the latter, how many countries do you have?
1
@gonnabeayogi1445 My mistake. You did indeed write "counties". I must have misread the word because it made no sense, given the context. Please allow me to amend my reply:- Are you talking about your "county's leaders" or your "counties' leaders"? If it is the latter, in how many counties do you currently reside? It would appear that the person who needs help with language skills is you. However many taxpayer funded lessons you received, it would appear that money was wasted. You have no knowledge of the use of possessive apostrophes, and consequently come across as a semi-literate fool.

@Fifigoesforth Close your eyes then. the decorations are a lot less offensive than the rip=-off American Candy Stores that have sprung up in the same area.

You poor dear.

You poor dear. Have a nice cup of hot milk and go to bed. You will feel better tomorrow.
