@sharonefee1426 We have to question whether it's truly a suicide attempt is someone's using a "non-extreme" method.

It would seem that a large portion of people confuse words with actions...even THOUGHTS with actions.

@jess4506 That's a unique interpretation and I generally like the sound of it. But I still say that if you're going to call yourself a man, you've got to stand up and commit to being one. And that often means swallowing your emotions (but not ignoring them) and doing things you really don't want to do. Being strong and tough where others might break down. But I fully agree that feminine qualities should be equally revered and appreciated in our world.

@jess4506 90% of what you wrote seems like you speaking for the experience of men (with no apparent credentials) but I'll offer you some thoughts just the same: Men DO need to be in touch with their emotions (as I previously noted) and comfortable expressing them, but they also need to be comfortable NOT expressing them. You're right, women do have their own brand of strength and that's a wonderful thing (that happens to not be relevant to this conversation). Warren Farrell is an ex-feminist who basically gave up all social standing so that he can speak what he (now) knows to be true. "As long as men feel pressure to display one type of strength or fit a certain mold, men will as a group experience more self doubt/loathing contributing to more violence, higher crime/incarceration rates, and unfortunately more suicides." Interesting assertion with absolutely nothing to back it up. Nor will there ever be anything to back it up. I probably won't get back around to this thread for a week or so but that'll give you time to think about the following statement: Women don't seek nobility because it's not part of the feminine calling; but any man not seeking nobility is surely in a poor and tragic place.

You miss the whole point. She's simply explaining the roles men and women have been historically valued for, and how it just happens that men are no longer engaging in such activities. Even the job of a firefighter is much less risky than in the past. Plus, men are dropping the ball when they DO have an opportunity to be courageous, such as entering a school to save endangered children. The best argument is that women are also dropping the ball with their refusal to have kids.

@devcron7041 No, men embrace the responsibility of being tougher and most don't have any issue with what that entails.

@jess4506 I appreciate your thoughts (psychoanalysis notwithstanding) and would like to continue this discussion as I feel there's an opportunity here. But I don't want to waste your time or mine so please forgive the brief screening below (and feel free to issue your own). 1) How do you feel about the MBTI category splits in relation to sex/gender? 2) As a fellow therapist, what do you think of Jordan Peterson's work? 3) What are your impressions of the following quote? “Deep in his heart, every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue.” -John Eldredge I look forward to your reply.

@rattlesnake02 Nobody said every man (male) was going to make the cut. That's the point of the pressures, to see who's fit enough to claim the title...who can respond to the pressures and come out stronger. It's like a Sheryl Crow song.

No. It's a war against femininity. Against women.

This was pretty dumb. Removing minimum wage is the worst idea ever unless you have 0% unemployment.
