Tom's a good guy and he's right about a lot of stuff, but he's so far Nietzschean that I worry about him. It doesn't show here, but he really does seem to believe that life is a battle and the enemy is other people who all want what you have. It gets to be "zero sum" thinking which he should realize is one of those things that "just doesn't work." I'm pretty sure Jung wasn't a leftist. Neither were some of the existential psychologists like Rollo May. But, generally speaking, all the social sciences tend to attract the people who don't feel they can fare in the private sector. Same phenomenon with educators, which is of course a huge problem of its own.

@peterweston1356 I agree with you. Tom's a strange exception to many rules and I can't help but like the guy. He's genuinely curious and that will take him far if he can ease up on the Nietzsche a little.

@LHelvi I admire you, to say the least. Self-responsibility is a dying art. There's so much advice I could offer but I don't believe you need it because you already have the right attitude. Kudos.

@Ondolite Your opinion is noted, and un-noted.

@Besseloff If you listen you'll see that for Tom right and left (politics) is just another framing of masculine and feminine. I completely agree with him. So how long would you say masculine and feminine have been around?

You're all for real hating on the wrong guy.

32K seems almost criminally low for a discussion this powerful. Says it all.
