Seven V Great comment, but it seems to suggest that moving to lower resolution religions is the natural course. Is there any path the other direction, to even higher resolution ones? That would seem to me to be the ideal...like the way Einstein spoke of himself as a highly religious man.

@josephmiller997 I don't disagree on any particular point. But just as organized religion can crowdsource wisdom, it can crowdsource anti-wisdom and lead people astray. My thought is that organized religions start off well and become perverted and corrupted over time. Kind of like everything else.

@jeanvandorst4287 I don't agree with that. I can have my own unique religion and it can be highly coherent and integrated. And I don't need to recruit anyone or go assemble with any congregation. All I have to do is keep my ideas consistent unto themselves. Organized religion is still very much a problem in my eyes because people's beliefs aren't really their own.

@Tomek.adagietto I don't believe you need God for a sophisticated religious structure. I don't have a "god" but I consider my belief system quite intricate and integrated. My intention with this post was never to point people back to traditional organized religion...which is problematic. I would imagine that Jordan Peterson's belief system is highly complex yet also highly individualized. He may not even attend a church.

@mahman543 Different styles of apprehension. Peterson gets to deeper ground but is more prone to errors because of his speculative-intuitive approach. But he never claimed to be a scientist.

@mahman543 I can give an answer for that. The far left simply co-opted postmodernism as a means to an end. It (PM) has no utility in itself but it's effect to create chaos and foster doubt in current institutions and social structures. Now that those (classicly liberal) structures have started to crumble, the Marxist left can let go of PM and return to their narrative proper. I'm not saying the left won, because everyone still loves cash. But that was clearly the strategy.

@mahman543 I think you're shifting the goal posts now but I'll give you my take in case you actually want to have a legit discussion. I'd say there are actually three distinct "lefts": The classicly liberal left, which includes people like Jon Haidt, Helen Pluckrose and Melissa Chen. Those who put people (and social progress) first but generally support the institutions that have gotten western society where it is today. The delusional left. These people follow Bernie Sanders and (probably) secretly believe he's not extreme enough. They are the ones who believe we can have everything--OR ANYTHING--for free. The woke left. These people aren't worth the words of disdain I have for them. So where would you like to go from here?

@mahman543 If all the movement is is a reboot of hippie 60s crap by people who weren't taught what happened in China or the Soviet Union, I want no part. Show me one new thing that's been brought to the table other than woke nonsense. Neither left nor right is a pejorative. They're just the wrong level of analysis. Jordan Peterson understood this but then let his followers drag him back into politics. Just another way that power corrupts.

@mahman543 Are you aware that Peterson's a huge Haidt fan? My guess is that you're judging the man based on limited exposure. Sort of like judging Nietzsche based on "god is dead" and "that which doesn't kill me makes me stronger." Anyway, what do you believe is the tangible legal goal?

@mahman543 Peterson is biased to the right because he believes in value hierarchies. But it's not a blind belief, he's done his homework. Again, postmodernism was co-opted by the left to break down the current structures...by people who simply can't compete . I feel like you're trying to push me further to the right.
