The message Peterson sends is that people need coercion of some type in order to perform within acceptable social boundaries, or to advance toward any type of nobility. I have to disagree in the sense that at least SOME people of history have risen to noble dispositions and deeds without external pressure or forces (e.g. Marcus Aurelius). I suppose it's possible that the majority are wired otherwise, but I don't believe we've done the experiment cleanly enough to assert that with full confidence. Further, it's possible that external coercion (i.e. artificial constraint) sets a certain type of person on a path of /rebellious destruction/ by generating an angst that finds no channel of positive release (i.e. sublimation). Oscar Wilde wrote an essay called, "The Soul of Man Under Socialism," which challenges Peterson's conclusion(s) head-on. It's worth a read. Note: I'm not saying that I believe Socialism is the proper course for all nations of the world. Nor have I drawn a final conclusion on the innate nature of the human majority as it pertains to this matter. To Wilde, I would say that the human soul--if there is one--is constant and would function according to its nature regardless of what system it operates within.

This explains why I'm not religious. I find the things of nature of greater interest and satisfaction than the things of any god. Love what's before you and let the rest take care of itself.

@bobwhatshisname2161 So you're saying god has a bit of an ego complex?
