I don't know as he worshiped Dionysus, I think he just appreciated him a little more than he appreciated Apollo.

@schiffelers3944 It pains me to say this but Nietzsche may have overcompensated in the way that Ayn Rand overcompensated in her crusade against collectivism (to the tune of laissez faire capitalism). I, too, am disgusted by the hyper-rational "Apollonian" world we know today, but I don't see Apollo as being life-negating. Remember that he once chased a mortal girl to the ends of the Earth and loved her even after she turned into a tree. That seems pretty erotic (life-affirming) to me. Also, rational thought is a great tool for human progress, whereas the Dionysian existence can readily devolve into the quasi-hedonism we see in many subcultures. It's really a question of baby vs. bathwater, and it seems that we've opted for the bathwater in both cases. A pity.

@schiffelers3944 We certainly need a balance but what I'm saying is that each of them have both positive AND negative (shadow) aspects, and that it seems the world is working the negative side of both Apollo and Dionysus. Anyway, I do agree that Dionysus is underrepresented and I'm all for a world with more nuance and dynamism...as long as it doesn't lose its capacity for reason.
