  1. Here's what Gabbard is missing. There comes a point when leaders like Assad and Kim Jong Un themselves must be considered terrorists, and hence it goes against policy to negotiate with them. You actually end up validating their internal tactics and terrorism-based governance. Gabbard is basically taking a utilitarian approach which inevitably leads to compromise. Do we really want to compromise with terrorists? Libya may be worse off today but at least they have a chance now. (Note: I'm not making a statement that we handled things properly in Libya.)
